QUALIFICATIONS:
The position requires a basic knowledge of employment techniques, methods, and procedures used for effective job search. Requires the ability to work with employers and match students’ abilities and skills to work based learning opportunities. Requires the ability to facilitate job readiness workshops and connect with high school students. Requires the ability to interpret the policies, procedures, techniques, and rules governing student employment and vocational job placement. Requires knowledge of the rules and regulations governing student employment. Requires demonstrated skills at using a personal computer for word processing, creating presentations, tabulating data on spreadsheets, accessing and entering data onto relational databases, verifying numerical and demographic information, and entering information onto established data entry screens. Requires sufficient math skills to compute sums, averages, products, and quotients. Requires sufficient human relation skills to convey technical concepts to others, to deal with sensitive and confidential information, to give instructions and training, and to facilitate discussions in individual and small group settings. Requires language, grammar, and writing skill to prepare professional correspondence, position advertisements, and informational brochures.. Requires the ability to achieve harmony and cooperation in communications with others. Requires the ability to prepare professional correspondence for routine communications. Requires the ability to learn and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures for equal employment opportunity. GENERAL INFORMATION:
The WBL Specialist provides job readiness support and job search services for students. This position requires a fundamental understanding of the pre-employment process such as job search skills, resume writing, successful interviewing techniques and completing the application process. Position includes researching and locating employers with potential job shadow, employment and internships for students’ skill level, and matching student backgrounds with jobs. The WBL Specialist will facilitate workshops related to these topics on high school campuses.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop specific career exploration and work-based learning activities such as career speakers, workplace tours, job shadows, field studies and internships for students throughout one or more of the Northern California Career Pathways Alliance (NCCPA) counties, which include Marin, Sonoma, Solano, Napa, Mendocino and Lake
• Develop and maintain a current and comprehensive occupational library including information on careers and career clusters, employment prospects and trends, employment requirements and opportunities
• Prepare and deliver informational presentations in classrooms and career centers
• Develop and secure externship sites for teachers in targeted pathways
• Participate as a member of the Career Pathway Support Team
• Work directly with business and industry to develop, implement, monitor, and refine outcomes for work-based learning opportunities
• Work in collaboration with the Pathway coaches and teacher teams on 21st Century Skills
• Design and implement student recruitment activities in collaboration with the pathway teacher teams and the regional WBL Coordinator
• Conducts a variety of work-based learning activities for students, including assessment for job readiness, career exploration and counseling, and job preparation skills training
• Provide services in high school career centers
• Provide necessary support for student participation in WBL activities, including required school district and NCCPA documentation, transportation, workplace visits, and communication between employer and students
• Selects places and evaluates students at internship site for WBL and job readiness skills. Collaborates with the employer’s to address any on-site questions or issues related to individual WBL placements
• Develop work-based learning opportunities for students by identifying and cultivating employer interest and participation in WBL activities through ongoing communication with employers, and business and industry partners
• Represent NCCPA in a variety of school or community based activities; i.e., Back-to School, Open House, Parent Clubs, and Education and Economic Development Summit
• Maintains necessary records of student participation; compiles, reports, and analyzes data, documenting program and activities for NCCPA evaluation
• Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position
