Youth Leader II (Contract)

Basic Assignment

Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Youth Leader II will assist in the overall program management and supervision of children 5-12 years of age, and the planning and implementing of activities for participants.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
• Must meet the minimum qualifications for Classroom Assistant/ Instructional Aide in the district in which assigned school operates; AA or BA is highly desirable, 48 college units or passing score on district's Classroom Assistant/ Instructional Aide Proficiency Exam acceptable.
• Minimum of 1 year working with youth in after school, childcare or comparable setting.
• Must be highly dependable.
• Must have a warm and friendly personality, while having the sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population.
• Must have willingness to fulfill the job responsibilities in accordance to the program and branch goals.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation.
• Physical ability to lead activities, such as sports, games and curriculum activities, monitor behavior and general housekeeping responsibilities.
• Ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner.
• Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting to work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions.
• A negative TB test results prior to working with participants.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.

Major Functions

• Assist in planning, supervision and implementation the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.
• Supervise participants, ensuring their guidance and safety.
• Comply with all contractual requirements and YMCA policies and procedures at all times.
• Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff.
• Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, school officials, parents, community members and co-workers.
• Assist in general housekeeping of the program space to include, but not limited to; cleaning bathrooms, wiping down table, sweeping/ mopping/ vacuuming floors, taking out trash and locking all doors.
• Maintain a professional demeanor at all times to ensure the YMCA image and mission statement are upheld.
