Inclusion Leader

Basic Assignment

Under the supervision of the after school site supervisor in collaboration with the school site administration, assist in providing supervision to youth with special needs. Assist in planning, developing, implementing and supervising activities for school age youth participants with special needs. Coordinate activities involving youth with special needs and other staff members. Staff will be Responsible for children with special needs between the ages of 5 to 12 in a one on one setting.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • 6 units Early Childhood Education, recreation or related field preferred.
  • Minimum one year working with youth in after school, childcare, day camp or recreation setting.
  • Verbal, visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency situation; to effectively supervise participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures, lead and interact in group activities and perform related physical skills.
  • Understanding of the Special Education System and IEP Process.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse community.
  • Fluency in Spanish very desirable.
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute.
  • Fingerprint clearance and TB test.

Major Functions

  • Work with youth with Special Needs with homework and club activities as needed.
  • Work constructively as a member of the after-school team.
  • Contact parents of children with Special Needs and Special Education Department to develop appropriate expectations and guidelines for each participating student with Special Needs.
  • Supervise youth in educational, recreational and specialty clubs.
  • Educate and train staff on including students with Special Needs into daily activities.
  • Continuously develop innovative ways to increase access for students with Special Needs to participate in the Program.
  • Assist in coordinating field trips, community service projects and guest speakers.
  • Assist with general program operation tasks, including daily set up, youth supervision, and site maintenance.
  • Attend all required regional and countywide meetings, in-services and safety trainings.
  • Treat youth and family members with respect and dignity.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required.
