Our approach to preschool learning is based on the "Playing to Learn Curriculum," "Creative Curriculum," and "Emergent Curriculum." Learning is a natural process occurring through self-directed experience, but optimized by a supportive, safe environment as well as positive interaction with adults. In our preschool programs we strive for high quality, dependable and affordable care for preschool age children. In addition to fostering the children’s social, intellectual, and emotional development, the YMCA also builds a meaningful community and relationships among its members and families. The Opportunity: Join the San Diego County YMCA’s central region team comprised of the Toby Wells, Mission Valley and new Copley-Price family branches as the Program Director I - Offsite Preschools. Do you have the drive, leadership and skills to lead a team of 50 plus staff members to deliver high quality curriculum, enrichment and education for preschool programs? Do you have a positive track record in monitoring the highest degree of compliance and quality on a consistent basis? Do you meet the CA Licensing requirements to be a Child Care Director? The Program Director I - Offsite Preschools is a full-time exempt position not limited to 40 hour work weeks with a compensation package that includes health insurance, Y Family Membership, vacation, sick pay and holidays per our company policy guidelines and 12% towards Y retirement upon meeting retirement fund eligibility requirements. Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Program Director II-Licensed Childcare, this position is responsible for the ongoing development, promotion and implementation of all licensed preschool programs. It is the responsibility of this position to operate these programs in a manner that maintains safety and contributes to the academic growth and enjoyment of the children enrolled. General administrative duties include: staff, recruitment, supervision and evaluation, fiscal management, promotion and quality assurance, and staff liaison to licensing and Childcare Resource Service. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in social or human services, education, child development, must have at least 12 units in early childhood education and 3 units in early childhood program administration. Program Director or Site Supervisor permit issued by the California Commission on teacher credential strongly desired. Two years experience managing childcare programs in supervisory roles, and four years experience working directly with children in an organized childcare setting. Working knowledge of play based learning and curriculum Ability to manage all aspects of small and large preschool programs including staff supervision and development, budgeting and curriculum development Ability to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with parents, children, staff, volunteers and diverse community. Must have taken ECE core courses: Child Growth & Development, Child, Family & Community and Curriculum Knowledge and expertise in child care programming and NAEYC standards Ability to meet and maintain California and state childcare licensing requirements (Title 22) Proven supervisory skills in hiring, training, evaluating and motivating staff and volunteers, as well as developing an effective staff team. Proven fiscal management skills. Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, required and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute. O2 certification required within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute. Current ESMA Health & Safety certification required. Ability to adequately observe program activities, enforces safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation. The physical ability to lead, interact and participate in group activities with children and perform related physical skills. Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs.
