Interim TK-3rd Lower School Director Job Description

REPORTS TO: OCEAA Board of Directors


JOB SUMMARY: The Lower School Director will collaborate with the Upper School Director to lead a dual language school that is committed to the ongoing development and wellbeing of its students, teachers and staff. The Lower School Director will provide strategic and instructional leadership and will oversee management of the day-to-day operations of the TK-3 school program. As an interim position, this job does not include evaluation of staff.


 

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  1. Shaping a vision of academic success for all students, one based on high standards as outlined in the charter.
    1. Exercise proactive leadership in promoting the vision and mission of the   school.
    2. Model and maintain high standards of professional conduct.
    3. Participate in activities to enhance professional development.
    4. Use the school’s charter and site plans (i.e. LCAP) in making decisions.
  2. Creating a positive and responsive school climate that facilitates learning, in order that safety, a cooperative spirit and other foundations of fruitful interaction prevail.
    1. Establish norms for student behavior and student-staff communication.
    2. Develop a sense of community through assemblies, celebrations, leadership opportunities, and     other positive incentives for students and staff.
    3.      Regularly implement recognition strategies for teachers and staff.
    4.  Develop and implement a school wide discipline plan that complements and complies with the    OCEAA Policies and Procedures manual (e.g., managing Office Discipline Referrals, SARB, etc.).
    5. Support staff in effective classroom management plans aligned with school-wide discipline   plans and monitor implementation.
    6. Implement School Safety Policies as outlined in the OCEAA Policies and Procedures manual.
    7. Take decisive action as needed to deal effectively with emergency situations and to stop possible breaches of safety, ineffective procedures or interference with operations.
    8. Participate in and supervise committee work to forward the varied goals of the school.
  3. Supporting and improving instruction to enable teachers to teach at their best and students to learn to their utmost.
    1.       Assist teachers in the creation of curriculum that is aligned with the California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) that reflects the unique mission and vision of OCEAA as outlined in the charter.
    2. Supervise the alignment of curriculum with state subject area content standards, standardized testing requirements, and arts, technology, language and culture goals as outlined in the OCEAA Charter.
    3. Supervise and monitor the accurate and timely completion of academic program data collection and reporting requirements as required by local, state and federal agencies.
    4. Lead the development and administration of quarterly standards- based benchmark assessments    in reading, writing, language acquisition and mathematics.
    5.       Systematically use formative assessment data to guide instruction, curriculum, and professional development.
    6. Implement the Plan for English Language Learners and Plan for Special Education as outlined in the OCEAA Charter, and revises those plans based on academic performance data, changing legal requirements, etc.
    7.       Promote a shared vision among all teachers of research-based instruction, high levels of student achievement and learning through rigorous and engaging classes.
    8.       Provide on-going support for improving teaching for all staff through a variety of strategies, including:
  • Lesson observations
  • Regular use of data
  • Collaborative planning and inquiry (PLCs)
  • Regular program of training
  • Informal support strategies, including coaching and mentoring  

4.Cultivating leadership in others so that teachers and other adults assume their parts in realizing the school vision.

    1. Collaborate with appropriate individual, district, or other identified specialists as needed to   improve the instructional program (RSP, Arts, Technology, Immersion, Literacy, Math, etc.). 
    2. Develop teacher leadership capacity by appropriately delegating tasks related to improving the total school program and environment.
    3. Plan a master schedule of professional development activities consistent with the vision and mission of OCEAA, instructional and student needs, and program evaluation.

5. Managing people, data and processes to foster continuous school improvement.

  1. Coordinate the administration of CASSP (STAR, Smarter Balanced Assessments), APRENDA, ADEPT, and other assessments with support from the Upper School Director, technology team and teacher leaders.
  2. Build teams to accomplish plans, goals and priorities.
  3. Model effective listening and positive interaction skills.
  4. Consider different perspectives, alternative options and consequence of each in making decisions.
  5. Facilitate problem solving by individuals and groups.
  6. Deal with problems associated with change.
  7. Coordinate BTSA and other induction opportunities for beginning teachers.
  8. Use data to develop long and short-range plans for meeting annual school wide and student subgroup growth targets as measured by California’s State Testing system
  9. Use a variety of measurements in the ongoing evaluation of student performance as outlined in the OCEAA Charter, and work with the Upper School Director to provide performance reports to parents and the Board of Directors on a regular basis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An instructional leader committed to educational excellence with a demonstrated ability to use data to develop and meet program goals.

  1. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  2. Bilingual/Biliterate skills in English and Spanish required.
  3. Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  4. Four years of related teaching experience.
  5. Two years of Administrative experience.
  6. A valid California Administrative Credential preferred.
  7. Expertise in primary curriculum and instruction, dual language, art and technology integration preferred.
  8. Experience in a charter school setting preferred.
  9. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relations using tact, patience, courtesy and create a service-oriented environment.
  10. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and work-related documents.
  11. Ability to be flexible and revise priorities based on requirements of school.
  12. Ability to handle upset children and adults in a respectful and professional manner.
  13. Ability to work with the public in a professional manner.
  14. Basic computer literacy.
  15. Flexibility to attend required/mandatory meetings on campus.
  16. Ability to type 50 words per minute using both hands.
    1. Ability to sit, stand, climb stairs, lifting up to 50 lbs., bend, pull, push,   carry, walk and operate equipment.
    2. Ability and willingness to reflect and improve.

SALARY: Based on experience

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the Contract provided upon employment.

Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the OCEAA School Board. Extended hours beyond the regular school day may be frequently required.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
