Administration of Justice Assistant Professor 80%/Coordinator 20%

 

The Institution:

Folsom Lake College (FLC) was established in 2004 as the fourth college in the Los Rios Community College District and serves over 8,000 students each semester. The college and its centers, El Dorado and Rancho Cordova, primarily serve students from the rapidly growing areas of eastern Sacramento and western El Dorado counties, forming a dynamic learning community committed to academic excellence and innovation. The Harris Center for the Arts, a regional performing arts center located at the college's main campus, offers tremendous teaching and learning opportunities and brings the arts, culture and entertainment to both the college and the surrounding communities.

 

FLC is an open access, comprehensive community college that provides educational opportunities designed to enrich and empower students and inspire excellence. FLC awards Associate in Arts or Science degrees, and transfer degrees; Career Technical Education certificates, transfer credit for students who intend to continue their education at a four year college or university, instruction in basic skills math and English, and English for non-native speakers.

 

The college mission is focused on a rigorous educational program with a strong focus on student success. To this end, the college provides a broad range of degree and certificate programs, a comprehensive student services program, a variety of learning modalities including online and hybrid courses, as well as numerous opportunities for student engagement and leadership. The college also provides classes in a variety of scheduling formats including semester, short term, and weekend and incorporates the newest technologies for classroom instruction.

Position Summary:

General Responsibilities: 

The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

 

Additional Position Summary:

? The teaching schedule may include any combination of day, evening, or weekend hours with office hours.

? Teaching may take place at the Folsom campus, the El Dorado Center, or the Rancho Cordova Center, or any combination of the three. 

? Teaching schedules will likely vary from one semester to the next to accommodate student and course sequencing needs.

 

Responsibilities:

? Responsible for instruction and academic support including evaluating student performance, maintaining a posted schedule of office hours, and being available for student consultation. 

? Serve as the adviser to the Administration of Justice Club and will provide guidance and career advisement to students. 

? Engage in community outreach (e.g., co-hosting the annual Law Enforcement Career Fair), and conduct activities with local high schools and transfer institutions as required for the overall success and growth of the program. 

? Provide a leadership role in a career and technical education Program Advisory Board for the Administration of Justice program.

? Conduct program review and participate in curriculum development, curriculum revision, and the assessment of Student Learning Outcomes (SLO), rubrics, and assessment models within the Administration of Justice program. 

? Fully participate in department activities and other college service relating to academic and professional matters.

 

Additioinal Responsibilities:

? Take a leadership role in strengthening the Administration of Justice Advisory Board and serve as the liaison to POST. 

? Participate in campus committees, conduct department meetings, and maintain accurate records in accordance with the policies, rules, regulations, and procedures of the Los Rios Community College District. 

? Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, completed by January 15, 2015, AND two years of experience in a related field; OR, an associate's degree AND six years of related experience; OR, the equivalent.* OR, hold a California Community College Instructor's Credential in the discipline area. 

 

2. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

Full-time, Tenure-track Position

Other/Desired Skills:

This position is responsible for POST administrative duties and works with POST electronic data interface (EDI).

 

Conditions:

All Positions: Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful clearance from a criminal background check, freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States prior to the first day of work. The District may select additional qualified candidates should unexpected vacancies or needs occur during this recruitment/selection process. When education is a requirement for the position, official academic transcripts from the accredited college/university must be submitted within 60 days of hire. 

 

Administrative/Executive/Faculty Positions: Contingent on funding and eligibility, successful candidates selected for an interview may be eligible to apply for partial reimbursement of travel expenses. 

 

Administrative/Executive Positions: Administrative positions may be subject to the District's Conflict of Interest Code, and a statement of economic interest is required within thirty (30) days following appointment to the position. Management/Executive positions are exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

 

Additional Salary Information:

Entering annual salary within a given range varies, depending upon units and degrees completed at accredited colleges/universities and on verified experience. Additional earnings may be available for summer, overloads, and stipends.
