Job Summary:
The Education Specialist is responsible for overseeing the classroom on a daily basis. Monitor the youth’s progress, work with teaching aides on special projects, design and implement the class curriculum, and work with the School Director on IEP’s and other projects as needed.
This is a Casual/Relief position needed for three months; possibility of extension.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Client Care and Supervision Services: 1) Provide a positive structured environment of psychosocial, behavioral and educational instruction for all youth; 2) conduct student assessment and academic testing.
Program Development: 1) Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with multi-disciplinary team in planning, developing and implementing instructional objectives and prescriptive tasks which implement the IEPs of students; 2) select and request appropriate instructional equipment and materials for effective programming and assume responsibility for maintaining an inventory as required.
Documentation: 1) Develop and maintain records of educational, social and behavioral data on students’ development and growth and utilize this information at multi-disciplinary meetings (IEPs, treatment reviews, etc.); 2) complete all required documentation in a timely manner.
Training: 1) Attend and participate in all required meetings and training; 2) plan and coordinate work of Instructional Aides and volunteer tutors if available.
Other Duties: 1) Perform all other duties as assigned. 2) May drive on Agency business as required.
Requirements / Qualifications

Credential Requirements: 1. Bachelor degree from an accredited college/university required. 2. Must have passed California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) OR hold a BA degree in Liberal Arts. 3. Must meet one of the following criteria: - Hold an Education Specialist Instruction Credential, mild moderate or moderate severe OR Preliminary Level 1 Education Specialist Instruction Credential. The candidate must have the exact credential, Level 1 or Clear. - Be enrolled in an Internship Education Specialist Instruction Program and hold an Internship Education Specialist Instruction Credential. - Have an Emergency Substitute Permit, Substitute Permit, or other current teaching credential. This criteria is ONLY applicable if working in a Substitute Teacher capacity for 20 days or less. 4. Clean driving record; current CA driver's license required, or ability to obtain within 10 days after hired required. 5. Experience with developmentally disabled and/or severely emotionally disturbed children preferred.
