Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print

The Douglas County School District is looking for dynamic and dedicated professionals to join our Substitute Teacher Program.  Why become a Substitute Teacher at DCSD?

  • For people seeking a teaching position, you can check out our school choice programs and build school relationships to help decide where you best fit within DCSD.

  • Many people use substitute teaching as a pathway into the teaching profession. Substitute teaching is an excellent way for you to decide if you would like to pursue additional education toward teaching or secure your teaching credentials.

  • For others, it’s a life style career that offers Flexibility, Variety, and Satisfaction!  Unlike most jobs, YOU decide when you want to work.  There are over 1,000 types of job possibilities to choose from depending on what grade levels and subjects you enjoy working.  In just one week, you can teach a kindergarten class how to count, guide high school sophomores through algebra, and play kickball with middle schoolers while subbing for PE.  Most of all, this is a rewarding experience for individuals who want to positively impact student learning and be part of their community!

To become a substitute teacher, first create your profile in our on-line application system at www.dcsdk12.org, click on “Careers” at the top of the page and Sign In.  Then to apply, key a word search on “Certified Substitute Teaching Positions.”

To work as a substitute teacher you should have a current Colorado Department of Education issued Teaching License, 5-Year Substitute Authorization or 3-Year Substitute Authorization.  Visit http://www.cde.state.co.us/information to apply for your license or authorization.

We appreciate your interest in working with our schools, teachers, and students!
