E CENTER Position Description Position Title: Family Advocate I, II, III Program: Salary Range: Pay Range 12 ( Level II) Pay Range 14 (Level III) Reports To: FLSA Status: WORK SCHEDULE: SUMMARY: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ? Support recruitment and enrollment of eligible children and families. ? Organize and implement materials and processes, including parent involvement activities as assigned. ? Assists with timely provision and completion of children’s health screenings. Assists with follow-up services for children as needed. ? Supports coordination of disabilities and mental health services, referrals, follow-ups and transition services. ? Develop effective parent partnerships through communications, interactions, parent meetings, and promoting parent involvement as assigned. ? Serve as role model for parents. ? Complete required reports and maintain documents including child and family records. ? Promote productive, effective relationships with Center Director/Teachers and other center staff. ? Organize and coordinate monthly Parent Center Committee (PCC) meetings at the centers as assigned. ? Support PCC Secretary to take accurate minutes at each PCC meeting as assigned. ? Maintain, organize and manage Parent Library at center, as assigned. ? Maintain and update Parent Bulletin Board at center, as assigned. ? Conduct classroom attendance reviews and conduct follow up phone calls as assigned. ? Serve as mentor/role model for Associate Family Advocates (as applicable) ? Assist Family Services Coordinator in the review, revision and development of policies, procedures and supporting documents for all areas of relevant services to children and families. ? Effectively plan, facilitate and participate in meetings, including center, program and community meetings (as assigned). ? Develop new resources for health care and social services for parents. ? Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: LEVEL I: College course work and/or community experience in health, special needs, and social service areas. Familiarity with sound medical, dental and nutritional practices for young children. Familiarity with community services available to low income families. Ability to work with families of diverse backgrounds. Prefer: College course work in child development and one year experience working in a child development, social services or health related agency. LEVEL II: Associate Degree in Social Work, Human Services or Health and 2 year’s experience working for a child development, social services or health related agency. Familiarity with sound medical, dental and nutritional practices for young children. Familiarity with community services available to low income families. Ability to work with families of diverse backgrounds. Prefer: College course work in child development. LEVEL III: Bachelor Degree or higher in Social Work, Human Services or Health and 2 year’s experience working in a child development, social services or health related agency. Familiarity with sound medical, dental and nutritional practices for young children. Familiarity with community services available to low income families. Ability to work with families of diverse backgrounds. Prefer: College course work in child development. Associate of Arts/Science degree in Social Services and minimum one year social service related experience and/or training. Education must have previously included or must be able to successfully complete educational coursework in child abuse, substance abuse and domestic violence within six months after date of hire. LANGUAGE SKILLS: operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents or employees of organization. ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE SKILLS: MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: COMPUTER SKILLS: REASONING ABILITY: instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized or not standardized situation. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
