SENIOR FOOD SERVICE WORKER
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of a High School or Intermediate Supervisor, operate a school snack bar and/or staff lounge, serving food items and beverages to employees.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification differs from Food Service Worker in that the incumbent operates a school snack bar and/or staff lounge with minimal supervision.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Estimate the amount of food necessary for facility operations. E
Plan daily menus and order food supplies to meet sales demands. E
Maintain adequate flow of food items and lunches to meet various peak periods of the day. E
Prepare, heat and serve food items such as sandwiches, hamburgers, soups, salads and salad dressings; prepare salad bar and condiments for potato bar; bake muffins. E
Complete preparation of partially prepared food items ordered from Central Food Facility; heat foods for final preparation. E
Confer with supervisor concerning operational problems, improvement of service, changes in menus, items sold and other matters. E
Clean, stock and maintain vending machines, order supplies for vending machines; count vending machine money daily. E
Receive, inspect and store incoming food supplies. E
Count money, make change and prepare cash and inventory reports. E
Clean food service area to ensure health, safety and sanitation requirements are being met. E
Maintain food service equipment, utensils and areas in a clean and sanitary manner. E
Perform related duties as assigned.

Order, store, display and serve large quantities of packaged foods.
Operate grills, ovens and other heating equipment.
Schedule heating of food items under rush conditions.

Estimate food and supply needs and quantities.
Make simple arithmetic calculations.

Communicate effectively with others.
Meet schedules and time lines.
Plan menus.
Maintain vending machines assigned to area.
Perform the essential functions of the job.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and at least one year of experience in operating a food service facility with little or no direction.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

School snack bar and/or staff lounge.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Walking and standing for extended periods of time.
Seeing to monitor proper measurements and read materials.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects, normally not exceeding forty (40) pounds.
Reaching over head, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various kitchen appliances.
HAZARDS:
Exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
