Granada Hills Charter, the largest charter school in the nation, is an independent public school in the San Fernando Valley. A fiscally independent conversion charter school that opened in 2003, Granada Hills Charter has a current student enrollment of approximately 4,750 in its high school program and 1,300 students enrolled in its TK-8 program that opened in 2019. The Granada Hills Charter High School Cheer Coach is responsible for coaching student athletes in competitive cheerleading techniques to prepare them for events and or competition. He/She motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. The Coach is responsible for setting and conducting practice times after academic classes and supervising the team at games, camp and any other activity where the team cheers. Must have extensive training and experience in cheerleading and choreography. Requires excellent communication, managerial, and planning skills.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience as a competitive cheerleading coach at the high school or college level preferred. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills related to cheers, cheer-dance, stunting, and choreography. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with advisor, school administrators, parents, and students.
Essential Duties
1. Organize and run effective warm up, practices and games.
2. Attend tryouts, practices, games, competitions, and cheer camp.
3. Assess skills and assign team positions.
4. With Advisor, maintain a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
5. Create, clean, and or teach routines.
6. Coach and instruct cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
7. Observe cheerleaders during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
8. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision and discipline of students at all times.
9. Has current CPR, first aid, coaching orientation and concussion certification.
10. Follow established procedures in the event of an injury.
11. Conference with Advisor, parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of and or disciplinary actions taken with students.
12. Follow state, regional, and district regulations governing the program; including but not limited to NFHS, AACCA, UCA, and USA spirit guidelines.
13. Model positive sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
14. Promote a spirit of cooperation and friendship between the cheerleaders and the dance team.
15. Work with the advisor to award cheerleaders at the end of the season banquet.
16. Keep on hand eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records as provided by Advisor.
17. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
18. Encourage cheerleaders to participate in other campus events and service projects.
19. Help plan and facilitate team-building, morale-building activities for the team.
20. Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervising administrator or athletic director.
