Ernestine C. Reems Academy has middle school openings for the 2011-2012 school year. Our middle school program is part of our extended elementary school, grades K -- 8. All grades are self contained requiring a multi-subject credential. There are two classes per grade level, there are 21 classroom teachers. All candidates must use best practices in the classroom and have experience gathering, analyzing and applying data to evaluate instructional effectiveness and the extent of student learning.

Effective CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT SKILLS are essential.

Reems Academy is a small school (360 students) with low teacher-student ratios. It is a cohesive learning community composed of teachers, staff, students, and parents.

Teachers work in lead teams and support one another to perfect their trade. Candidates should have a willingness to work hard and takes risks. Teachers must be committed to working with underserved youth, possess strong content area knowledge, communicate well with students, families and colleagues. The Middle School staff is very strong and enjoys working in teams. All middle school teachers are innovative and work together to articulate instructional strategies that foster high order thinking, e.g., problem solving and abstract thinking skills. Candidates must be team players willing to go the extra mile.

Candidates must have basic knowledge of 1) technology and use in the classroom, 2) basic computer software, such as Office applications, and Internet Explorer and, 3) on-line assessment tools and the ability to convert data to instructional strategies.

A valid California Multi-subject Teaching Credential (Preliminary or Clear)
CSET, CBEST, RICA, CSET
Clear background
Current CPR certificate
Clear TB report

Compensation: The salary is highly competitive with benefits that include medical, dental and life insurance. All teachers are enrolled in CALSTRS.
