The Frostig Center is a nonprofit state certified center in Pasadena, California. Dr. Marianne Frostig established the center over 50 years ago and is known for specializing in working with students who have learning disabilities, learning differences and learning difficulties. Through our training programs, consultation services, and professional publications, as well as our school and after-school programs and summer workshops, we have been able to share our expertise with people all over the world. The Center is a place where professional development is integrated into everyday practice. Our staff find this to be a warm and enriching work environment utilizing an interdisciplinary team approach. The Frostig School serves grades 1-12.
Job Description:
The teacher has a caseload of no more than 12 students. The typical schedule involves teaching 4 high school classes among which are science (earth, life, or physical), health, pre-algebra and/or English/Language Arts (double period). Preference will be given to those who can also teach Spanish. Teachers in the academic program have planning for two periods and lunch from 12:30-1:00. Teachers are expected to be on site from 8-4:30.
The teacher will work with a teaching assistant, as well as collaborate within an interdisciplinary team (including on-site therapists), including the transition coordinator and social skills coordinator. Students’ length of stay at Frostig can range from two to eight years. Four to ten students graduate per year. Other students may dual-enroll at Frostig and a general education school within the geographic area.
The school is part of the Frostig Center. In addition to direct services, the other department is an outreach program that provides teacher training and consultation in the community. The Center is a place where professional development is integrated into everyday practice.
Other Responsibilties & Duties:
Writes progress reports for each enrolled student, maintains pertinent records including daily lesson plans and attendance, weekly reports to parents, monthly attendance records, and ongoing reports such as classroom reports and IEP/cycles.
Effectively and accurately keeps each family apprised of student progress and establishes a positive working relationship with the family. Attends and participates in staff and in-service training meetings, two parent-teacher conferences per student per year, case conferences, school special events and workshops as scheduled by school administration. Attends annual orientation and weekly mandatory team meetings.
Prepares for annual IEPs and data for triennial assessment working in conjunction with the IEP & Testing Coordinator to ensure compliance with district and state laws. Attends IEP meetings with school district personnel.
