DISTRICT PARENT COORDINATOR 

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The District Parent Coordinator promotes parent and community participation in district schools, serves as a liaison between schools, parents, and the community; educates teachers and staff on communicating effectively and working together with parents as equal partners; advises and trains parents on how to become better advocates for their children’s education; makes home visits to assist and support parents in understanding the education process; provides information on services available to eligible students and families; coordinate and conveys information regarding school and/or district activities and procedures; refers families to other agencies.

FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates and creates opportunities for parents to develop the skills needed to function effectively in a working relationship between home, school and community throughout the year.
  • Assists administration, students, staff, teachers, parents and community members in establishing and implementing effective parent/community programs.
  • Develop curriculum to provide parent involvement training opportunities for families and staff.
  • Articulates needs of parents and coordinates and provides training for parents/staff.
  • Visits families in their homes and attends multiple parent involvement functions; including those conducted on weekends and at night.
  • Coordinate schedule of district-wide activities and articulates the needs of parents. Coordinates parent training and prepares a calendar for distribution on a monthly basis in advance of activities.
  • Identifies at risk students/families; organizes various activities (e.g. meetings, appointments with other agencies, parenting classes, etc.).
  • Participates in various meetings and District Advisory Councils as may be required; as well as Title I and other educational conferences.
  • Assists in coordinating with community leaders and organizations.
  • Refers students and their families to outside agencies (e.g. state agencies, medical professionals, counselors, foundations, charities, etc.).
  • Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records.
  • Translates written and verbal communications (e.g. notes, bulletins, newsletters, correspondence, IEP and other proceedings, etc.) in English and Spanish.
  • Schedules meetings/appointments and identifies at risk students/families.
  • Compiles student/family information including collecting data about program effectiveness.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements for Applying

Required: Valid California administrative credential authorizing service in this position. Five (5) or more years successful teaching experience. Master’s Degree Character, personality, and social capability to relate and communicate effectively with staff, students and community.
