READING RECOVERY TEACHER
ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIPS
1. Directly responsible to the school principal.
2. Comply with requirements of Reading Recovery Teacher Leader as mandated by the Reading Recovery National Diffusion Network (NDN) Guidelines.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide individual tutorial instruction in reading to first grade students according to the procedures of the Reading Recovery Program.
2. Administer and evaluate the Observational Survey to the lowest 20% of the entering first grade students as determined by the first grade teachers. Using these results, and with the assistance of the Teacher Leader, selects four students to receive training with the remainder of the students placed on an ordered waiting list.
3. Successfully complete the initial full year training, including the seven-day summer Assessment Training and thirty weekly three hour class sessions for Reading Recovery teachers. During successive years, attends a minimum of six continuing contact sessions.
4. Maintain records on all children tested and served as required by the National Diffusion Network (NDN) Guidelines and any other record keeping requirements mandated by the District and funding sources.
5. Maintain professional competence through participation in professional activities including the West Coast Literacy Reading Recovery Conference.
6. Communicate at the school site with teachers and parents to develop a language-rich, supportive environment for students.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR GRADUATE CREDIT COURSE WORK - TRAINING YEAR
All training during the initial training year must be taken for graduate credit through an authorized university. Course work fees are the responsibility of the trainee.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of three years classroom or support staff experience at the primary level.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. A valid teaching credential.
2. Reading Recovery Teacher Certification (Must have successfully completed a yearlong course in Reading Recovery for which university credit was received.)

Must have a valid California teaching credential. In addition, must have CLAD or English Learner authorization. Training is provided. (Graduate level coursework fees are the responsibility of the trainee).
Letter of Introduction, current resume, completed EDJOIN application, college transcripts, CBEST card (or other basic skills exam), valid teaching credential (please upload detailed credential), CSET results (if applicable), NCLB (if available), two letters of recommendation that have been written within the past year (one of these letters should be from your current supervisor or immediate preceding supervisor). Selected applicants will be notified of time and place of interviews.
