JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Elementary School Principal
Reports to: Director of Elementary Education
Function: To establish and maintain a school environment wherein children learn
effectively by (1) selecting and supervising building level personnel; (2) developing
and implementing plans designed to improve learning; (3) continuously promoting
positive relationships among pupils, teachers, parents, District personnel and
community resource people; (4) coordinating all resources under his/her control for
maximum benefit; (5) monitoring and evaluating performances, processes and
achievements of the school program and (6) participating in the managerial support
system of the District.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
1. Selects, assigns, supervises and evaluates building level personnel.
2. Facilitates the establishment of standards of expected student progress and techniques for the assessment of that progress.
3. Provides necessary administrative support and supervision in order that standards of expected student performance be established and met.
4. Utilizes appropriate assessment techniques.
5. Establishes and maintains a school program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth that is in keeping with the needs of the community which it services.
6. Administers and coordinates building level budget and effectively utilizes other school, District and community resources.
7. Establishes and maintains proper student control. Carries out provisions of school and District policy and the Educational Code relating to student deportment.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
1. Serves as on-site administrator making the judgments and taking the actions as appropriate and necessary.
2. Serves the Superintendent as a member of District task groups, spokesperson for his/her school attendance area and monitor the District performance.
3. Plans and implements a program of community relations as a means of interpreting and furthering school programs through parent and other organizations.
4. Manages the school site, plant and office.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
Possession of Certificated Administrative Credential Minimum of five years teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level Master's Degree
