The Preuss School UCSD is a public Charter School located on the UCSD East Campus for Grades 6-12 dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for motivated low-income students who will become the first in their families to graduate from college. As part of UCSD, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop best practices in the preparation of low-income, urban students for college admission.

A school psychologist is a credentialed professional whose primary objective is the application of scientific principles of learning and behavior to address students’ school-related challenges and to facilitate the learning and social-emotional development of students. The school psychologist is expected to deliver quality psychoeducational services that facilitate successful learning experiences for all students in accordance with the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) Professional standards and the educational philosophy and objectives of the school site.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current California Pupil Personnel Services credential with special authorization in school psychology.

  • Academic and experiential knowledge of psychotherapeutic processes and procedures as well as working knowledge of psychodiagnostic procedures and techniques, including developmental and abnormal psychology.

  • Demonstrated skill to conduct intake clinical interviews, psycho-diagnostic assessment, to formulate and conduct treatment plans and recommendations.

  • Demonstrated skill to work with a diverse population and traditionally underrepresented student groups. Knowledge and skills to be culturally responsive.

  • Ability to implement consultation and educative services.

  • Demonstrated skill to conduct brief individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.

  • Demonstrated skill in managing mental health emergencies.

  • Knowledge of organizational consulting techniques, systems and community psychology models and approaches

  • Knowledge of the current laws, procedures and the American Psychological Association ethical principles that govern the practice of psychology in the state of California.

  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Current California Pupil Personnel Services credential with special authorization in school psychology.

  • Must pass background check and TB screening.
