LVN-Support Nurse
Under direction and supervision of a district administrator, site administrator, and appointed credentialed nurse, supports the health education program at the school sites.
Responsible to: District Office Administrator, appointed credentialed nurse and/or site Principal(s)
Examples of duties: Provides assistance, at the direction of credentialed nurse, with testing, recording results, coordinate and follow-up for students referred to community agencies. Verifies and coordinates mandated immunization for all students. Performs follow-up on all students not meeting immunization requirements. Notifies parents of immuno-compromised students of communicable diseases. Assumes responsibility for control aspects of communicable diseases at school sites (head lice, pink eye, impetigo, etc.), including parent contact, follow-up and sending notices. Assists with mandated health screenings. Maintains current lists of students on short or long term prescribed medications and current list of health concerns. Administers first aid to students and staff when necessary. Verifies and coordinates mandated Child Health and Disability Physical for entering first grade students. Maintains student health records. Contacts parents on a variety of health issues. Other duties as assigned.
Education and experience:
Licensed Vocational Nurse Certification.
Knowledge of:
Appropriate handling of student records, including confidentiality issues. Appropriate emergency procedures. Standard English grammar and speaking ability. Standard English writing and communication. Suportive and positive ways to share health information with parents, students, and staff.
Essential Functions:
Orally communicate with good articulation, speech, and language. Write a simple report of information and data. Understand and maintain confidentiality. Read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions. Give directions clearly. Work independently and make emergency decisions within the framework of established guidelines. Adapt to individual needs of school sites. Work with interruptions. Work harmoniously with staff, students, and parents. Learn to operate screening equipment related to the position. Understand and relate to students with a wide range of behavioral learning and physical capabilities. Possess the physical characteristics to perform the duties.
