SMART-E AFTER SCHOOL ASSISTANT PROGRAM COORDINATOR
OVERVIEW:
The San Carlos School District has created the SMART-E Program in response to the needs of parents who are seeking extended learning opportunities and care for their children beyond the regular school day; and in response to our students’ desires to be more fully engaged in a wide range of enriching, fun, and creative programs after school.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Heather After School Assistant Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting the SMART-E Program Coordinator by coordinating day-to-day operations, including, but not limited to, working with students daily, supervising on-site vendors, administrative tasks, as well as supervising other paid staff and volunteers who are helping at his/her site. This position will require an adaptable, customer service-oriented professional who can work well in a team environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- The employee is regularly required to sit and talk and hear.
- The employee is frequently required to walk and use hands to finger, handle and feel.
- The employee is occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms; stoop, knee, crouch and crawl.
- The employee is occasionally required to run, jump, and play with children.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to:
- Implement day-to-day operations of a care program, including preparing snacks and activities
- Gain confidence of the children and supervise them in educational and recreational situations
- Participate in play and physical activities with children
- Create and explain simple hands-on learning activities
- Manage student behavior and recognize behavior characteristics
- Correct use of English language, grammar, spelling
- Supervise on-site vendors, and volunteers
- Work with Program Coordinator to coordinate staff schedules
- Flexibility in schedule to fill-in for morning care or noon supervision, as necessary
- Communicate professionally with parents, students, school administration, and co-workers
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with children, parents, and co-workers
- Learn and implement basic safety and emergency procedures
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions
- Work independently on own initiative with routine guidance
- Handle administrative tasks such as phone calls, emails, letters, newsletters
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum - AA degree. ECE units desired (can be in process). Experience is working with children in a child care and/or recreational environment preferred. CPR/First Aid training preferred. Must own a California driver’s license and be able to transport yourself to work daily.
