Requirements / Qualifications
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The purpose of Instructor, Pharmacy Assistant/Pharmacy Technician is to perform under general supervision, to supervise and instruct students with skills and understanding of the profession as an entry-level pharmacy clerk. Units of instruction include basic clerical skills, customer service, insurance billing and retail practices. The instructor will prepare students to take in the following areas: Knowledge of practice settings, standards and ethics, laws and regulations; ability to identify and employ pharmacy and medical terms, abbreviations and symbols; knowledge and ability to calculate common dosages, employ metric and apothecary systems; knowledge and understanding of the identification of drugs, drug dosages, routes, and forms. Also instructs students on record keeping techniques. The instructor will establish pharmacy partners to place students in an internship component under the community class section of this course. The following documents are required upon hire: Valid California Driver's License, Fingerprint Clearance, TB Clearance, High School Diploma or equivalent. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of work experience in the technical skills, trade, or vocations to be taught are required. One (1) of the three (3) years of the required experience must be within the last five (5) years, or two (2) years within the last ten (10) years. EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree desired.
CREDENTIALS/CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to employment, a valid California Designated Subjects Vocational or Career Technical Education Teaching Credential for the subject to be taught is required. (Refer to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing pamphlet for: Career Technical Education Designated Subjects Teaching Credentials). EL certification or annual renewal of EL waiver will be required until EL Authorization is obtained. You must provide copies of credentials as required for the position or provide evidence of qualifying for required credential with your application materials. CPR Certification required (American Heart Association).
