MAJOR DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaches content and skills in English language, literature, and composition, as well as in reading and journalism, to secondary pupils utilizing appropriate learning activities.

Adapts English materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge pupils.

Determines instructional materials designed to achieve instructional goals and behavioral objectives.  Selects books and instructional aids.

May provide remedial programs for pupils who have not achieved reading and language competency commensurate with their potential.

Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions based on a variety of mass media and classical and contemporary literature.

Encourages pupils to think independently and to express original ideas.

Evaluates each pupil’s progress in English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and prepares progress reports).

Develops weekly lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy and curriculum of the District.

Provides students with the opportunity to partake in daily patriotic observance.  Education Code 52720.

Monitors classroom environment to ensure clean and safe conditions exist, notifying principal of any unclean or unsafe classroom conditions.

Monitors classroom activities making students responsible for putting materials, supplies, tools, etc., safely and neatly away at the end of the class session.

- Valid California Single Subject Teaching credential with authorization in "English" - NCLB Highly Qualified in "English" - English Learner Authorization

Attached credential copy must include DETAILED credential information including the document number, authorization code, authorization description, issue date and expiration date. Such copies can be obtained using the link provided to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing website through the “Secured Search” option. “Suitable for framing” versions will not be accepted.
