Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School

Position

Middle School Math Teacher

Description

Full Time Middle School Math Teacher (Grades 6-8)
2014-2015 School Year

HESCHEL DAY SCHOOL seeks an energetic, passionate, flexible and talented middle school math teacher for the 2014-15 school year.  Applicants’ desire to teach, spend time with, mentor, and guide middle school-age children, specifically, is an important consideration.  Successful candidates will have experience in the classroom teaching 6th, 7th, or 8th grade math, will be enthusiastic about the use of technology in teaching, and will be ready to participate fully in the life of HESCHEL DAY SCHOOL.  Aside from teaching, responsibilities include, but are not limited to: regular supervision duties; chaperoning field trips and overnight trips; collaborating with colleagues;  ongoing professional development; modeling integral, respectful and thoughtful behavior for students; communicating proactively and regularly with parents; and generally serving as an ambassador for HESCHEL DAY SCHOOL.

HESCHEL DAY SCHOOL is a TK through eighth grade Jewish community day school.  Its 76,000 square foot facility includes a gymnasium/auditorium, a library, a lunch pavilion, elementary and middle school media labs, elementary and middle school science labs, art and music classrooms, playgrounds, and an athletic field.  Construction of a new S.T.E.A.M lab and improvements to playgrounds are underway.  The school’s values of tradition, character, and community have been its foundation for almost forty-two years and they continue to infuse students, faculty, staff, and parents with shared vision and meaningful purpose. Our academic program emphasizes the development of thinking, problem solving, and creative self-expression which reaches far beyond the rote mastery of basic skills.  Modern approaches to teaching and learning, using technology, project-based learning, and an overall emphasis on student attainment of 21st century skills are balanced with incorporation of ancient traditions and values that are hallmarks of Judaism. The teaching of resilience, the overcoming of adversity, and the development of confidence in one’s abilities are emphasized, bearing in mind age-appropriate capabilities and individual student progress.

HESCHEL DAY SCHOOL offers competitive salaries and benefits, as well as a collegial working environment.  Please send a cover letter and resume to Marc Lindner, Middle School Director, at marc.lindner@heschel.com.
