Job Description / Essential Elements:    Print   

FLSA: Exempt, Contract

Conducts ECERS-R, FCCERS-R, ITERS, and/or CLASS Toddler, CLASS Pre-K assessments according to LAUP protocols; writes legible and sufficient notes/documentation on score sheets to support the scores given; and writes a Summary/Observation Report for each assessment.

Consistently promotes and models courteous LAUP/community service in a prompt and efficient manner. Maintains positive relationships with all LAUP internal and external contacts through professional honest interaction. Responds to requests quickly and professionally recognizing that a request serves an organization and/or community need.

LAUP Mission:

Supports LAUP mission of providing quality preschool education to the children of Los Angeles County.

Daily Tasks

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Exhibits expertise by attending and successfully completing ERS and/or CLASS Observer training by reaching reliability (85% of consensus scores with an Anchor for 3 consecutive days)
  • Establishes regular reliability checks with Anchor
  • Manages, coordinates, and conducts multiple ERS and/or CLASS assessments per week according to LAUP Protocols
  • Composes legible and sufficient analytical documentation on score sheets to support scores provided
  • Manages and compiles a Summary/Observation Report for each assessment that provides information to Anchors for interpretation
  • Exhibits and maintains reliability with ERS- and CLASS-related materials, including, but not limited to: Assessment manual, Additional Notes for Clarification, USDA Guidelines, Playground Guidelines, Caring for Our Children, and CCLD requirements
  • Collects, manages and submits data in required format as well as hard and soft copies of score sheets and Observation/Summary Reports according to established schedule
  • Exercises independent judgment to interpret and apply proper Quality Assessor guidelines and protocol
  • Maintains and applies up-to-date licensing regulations – reporting violations when required
  • Remains up-to-date on Mandated Reporter regulations
  • Maintains annual certifications on TERS, FCCERS, ECERS, CLASS & Toddler CLASS
  • Upholds and maintains open and consistent communication with all members of the Quality team

Physical Duties

  • Must have the ability to perform required duties as assigned which may include traveling to provider sites, standing for long periods of time, working in inclement weather conditions, kneeling, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 20 lbs

  • Adheres to LAUP general safety practices and any unique safety practices for the department and/or building

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Criteria for licensed child care in California and regulations essential to the health and welfare of children, Title 22
  • Advanced competencies in the comprehension of and experience conducting ECERS-R, FCCERS-R, ITERS, CLASS Toddler, and CLASS Pre-K assessment tools is ideal
  • Demonstrated knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Requirements / Skills:

  • Attentive to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Ability to accept and implement constructive criticism
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interfacing with staff, providers and stake holders
  • Ability to take the initiative, self-starter, and efficient in organizational skills
  • Must be flexible, and decisive with excellent phone and in-person customer service skills
  • Must have a valid California Driver License and appropriate levels of automobile insurance

Formal Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or K-5 Education preferred with 3 – 5 years experience as an Assessor, Administrator or Teacher in a child development program or closely related experience required
  • Although a Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred, candidates with an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or K-5 Education with 5 years or more work experience as an Assessor, Administrator or Teacher in a child development program will be considered

Language proficiency required/preferred:

  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or English and any other commonly spoken language in Los Angeles County)
