BRENTWOOD UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Title: Director of Student Services Reports to:District Superintendent Work Year:215 days PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Responsible for the planning, development, coordination and management of child welfare and attendance programs • Assists school sites with development and implementation of counseling and guidance programs and other interventions designed to assist students at-risk • Provides leadership in coordination, implementation and managing budgets of programs such as school safety and violence prevention, safe and drug free schools, wellness - including professional development • Provide leadership to sites in establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior and attendance, and in the creation of learning environment conducive to the development of student self-esteem and self-concept • Manages the district’s expulsion procedures; ensuring due process for students and including placement of students in alternative educational programs and facilities • Organizes and analyzes data concerning suspensions and expulsions for the purposes of improved programs and services to students • Oversees district student attendance programs, including efforts to increase ADA and to reduce truancy; collaborate with fiscal services to ensure compliance with audit requirements; provide professional development to site staff • Administers referrals to Student Attendance Review Board (SARB) • Provides direction to sites concerning student admission, residency, enrollment procedures, laws and policies • Coordinate and supervise student health and safety services such as vision and hearing screenings, immunizations, and CHDP • Leads the intra and inter-district transfer process • Coordinates development of curriculum design, instructional program and staff development for summer school and intersession • Supervises and direct all Alternative Education programs, including: home instruction for homebound or hospitalized students, opportunity programs and the district’s Independent Study program • Coordinate and manage district diversity awareness programs; Serve as liaison to Community Diversity Committee • Establish, maintain and supervise a system for access to student records • Develop and implement consistent and compliant processes for student promotion and retention • Coordinates the annual notification sent to parents and students • Prepares district reports, plans and grant applications • Maintains a positive and mutually beneficial partnership between the District and local law enforcement agencies and with other community resources (welfare, protective services, probation, etc) in order to provide support for students and families with attendance, behavioral and other personal/social difficulties • Assists with District emergency operations plan • Serve as liaison with county community day school for student placement • Serve as compliance officer to receive and investigate complaints and to ensure district compliance with the law • Other duties as assigned ADA REQUIREMENTS: Must have the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift objects weighing approximately 20 lbs. (i.e. binders, books, files,) push, pull, drag, and grasp objects.

Please note that Brentwood follows a modified traditional calendar, with students returning from summer break on July 28, 2014. This position will officially start July, 2014. Successful candidates will possess strong leadership and facilitation skills. Other desired qualifications and abilities include: •Establish and articulate a strong vision for promoting the success of all students. •Recognize and develop programs to meet the needs of diverse students and families. •Understands laws and regulations related to student attendance, suspension, expulsions, etc. •Knowledge of effective behavioral intervention models and support systems for at risk students. •Understanding of the Response to Intervention concept. •Model strong personal ethics and effective problem solving and decision making. •Demonstrate a proven record of successful administrative experience. •Ability to provide direction and support to site leaders in establishing programs that ensure the success of ALL students.
