Responsibilities: ABOUT THE SCIENCE PROGRAM AT LEPORT: We have an opening for a science teacher in our Upper Elementary and Junior High program (4th-8th grade). You will work with us to learn our unique curriculum, and become trained in our pedagogical approach, in tandem with teaching the grade level(s) most suited to your abilities and our needs. At LePort we teach science primarily for two reasons: So that our students come to understand the world around them and use the knowledge they gain to better enjoy and appreciate that world. As they observe nature, classify their observations, and follow the logic of scientific discovery, students come to appreciate the wonders around them, the scientists who discovered those wonders, and the vital role science and technology plays in our lives. So that students improve their thinking skills, and learn to reflect on what they know. We use the scientific method as our guide to structure our science curriculum. We start out with observations the students can make independently, then take our students on a journey of discovery—introducing them, step-by-step, to scientific questions in key fields spanning the life sciences and physical sciences. We help them discover not just the answers, but also the evidence-based approach that is at the foundation of all scientific thinking. IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS: •Strong knowledge of at least one of the scientific disciplines, and a willingness to teach all of science •Authentic love of science that extends beyond the classroom •Positive, benevolent outlook on life •Willingness to learn and internalize LePort’s unique approach to science education, and to contribute to the further development of our curriculum •Interest in working with upper elementary and middle-school aged children and connecting with them as individuals •Experience teaching science preferred but not required apply at : https://careers-leportschools.icims.com/jobs/1091/science-teacher/job
