Job Summary

Under direction, performs skilled electrical work in the repair, installation, and alteration of electrical and electronic equipment and wiring systems; and performs related work as required.

 Essential Duties:

       Essential Duties:

  • Repairs, replaces, installs, services, and maintains electrical and electronic systems, including interior and exterior conduit, scoreboards, clocks, shop equipment such as table saws, joiners and compressors, lighting and power circuits, swimming pool and other motors, motor controls, transformers, generators, receptacles, fuses, main switch gear circuit breakers and sub breakers, panels and load centers.
  • Installs and maintains a variety of indoor and outdoor lighting fixtures, including those in swimming pools.
  • Determines causes of electrical failures and plans repairs.
  • Estimates time and material required for new construction, remodels, and repairs.
  • Inspects electrical equipment and installations for conformity with safety standards and regulations.
  • Works overtime in emergency situations.
  • Maintains records of time and materials.
      MARGINAL DUTIES
  • May occasionally work on air conditioning equipment.
  • May train and lead the work of others. 

 Employment Standards:
Education and ExperienceHigh school graduation or equivalent, and any combination equivalent to one year of experience as a journey-level electrician.

LICENSEMust possess and maintain a valid Class C California Driver License and remain insurable at the standard insurance market rate.

 Knowledge and Abilities:

      Knowledge of:

  • Materials, equipment, and methods used in electrical and electronic installation and repair work. 
  • National Electrical Code, the California Administrative Code Division of Industrial Safety, and local electrical ordinances.
  • Principles of electrical and electronic theory.
      Ability to:
  • Install, repair, and maintain electrical equipment and wiring systems.
  • Interpret and work from plans and specifications for electrical work.
  • Make accurate mathematical computations.
  • Climb ladders and scaffolds, work on roofs and from scissors lift or cherry pickers, in attics and other tight places.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Read and write English at a level required for successful job performance.
  • Keep simple work records.
  • Prioritize and schedule work assignments.
  • Train and lead the work of others.
  • Repair electrical machinery and equipment of up to 480 volts.
  • Work cooperatively with others. 

 Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Works in both shop and field environments, exercising skill and safety precautions in working with equipment carrying up to 480 volts of electricity, performs heavy work including pushing/moving items up to 100 pounds.  Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc. one or more stories above ground level and on the roof. Must be able to dig holes and trenches, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl through ceilings, under flooring and similar spaces. Must work in inclement weather or other adverse conditions (tight spaces, dust, fumes, extreme heat, etc.). Must be able to drive vehicle to various district sites.

You can obtain these applications by either going to: www.ggusd.us or in person at: 10331 Stanford Avenue, G.G. 92840. Candidates must submit a recent (within the last 30 days) original DMV driving record by the oral rating exam.

Requirements / Qualifications
