The Placer Union High School District (PUHSD) is seeking an educational leader to serve as the principal of Colfax High School (CHS). CHS is located adjacent to the community of Colfax, just off I-80, 16 miles from Auburn. The attendance area extends from just outside Auburn to Emigrant Gap, bordered by the American and Bear Rivers. CHS serves approximately 700 students, grades 9-12, in a comprehensive high school setting.
CHS is committed to William Glasser’s Quality School concepts, as well as Rick DuFour's Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Each PLC team determines the Essential Learning Outcomes for each course. By using formative assessments, PLC teams determine what extra time and support is needed to assist each student to master the curriculum. CHS operates on the fundamental assumption that all students are capable of experiencing success and achieving excellence in learning. CHS provides a climate which affirms the worth and dignity of all students while setting high standards for learning and behavior. The campus has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where students and staff feel safe and enjoy good relationships. The expectation for schoolwide learning is for graduates to be effective communicators, resourceful learners, life-long learners, fit individuals, academically responsible, and exceptional citizens. The graduation rate for the 2011-12 school year was 96.8%. In school year 2012-13, 95% of all sophomores passed the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) in English Language Arts (ELA), and 97% of sophomores passed the Mathematics portion.
PUHSD encompasses 980 square miles, primarily along the I-80 corridor, stretching from the suburbs of Sacramento eastward to Emigrant Gap. There are three other comprehensive high schools, a continuation high school, an independent study high school, an adult education program, and a county ROP program in the district.
