The GHCHS Head Football Coach is responsible for managing the Football Program. This includes but is not limited to putting together a coaching staff, assembling a team, scheduling practices, tournaments, and completions. The head coach must communicate effectively with fellow coaches, players, parents, the Athletic Directors, and other school personnel as well as supervise assistant coaches. The head coach is also involved with various fundraising endeavors and support organizations. Reports to the Administrative Director of Student Services.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school graduate
Experience coaching football at the high school or college level.
Experience as a head coach at the high school level a plus.
Will require successful completion of a CPR course, first aid course as well as on-line coaching fundamentals, concussion and sudden cardiac arrest courses.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- All head varsity coaches shall carefully supervise all of their respective teams, including lower level teams.
- All head varsity coaches are responsible for informing their staff at all levels of the current rules and regulations related to their sport as well as GHCHS rules and procedures.
- Recruit student managers and instruct them of their duties.
- Organize, oversee, and conduct all practice sessions. Cooperate with other coaches whenever facilities must be shared.
- Confirm clearance on all athletes in their program.
- See that all players and team personnel have an appropriate way home after the squad has returned from a road trip.
- See that all squad members understand training rules set up by the League, School, and team.
- Report all training rule violations to the Athletic Directors or Activies/Athletic Program Coordinator.
- Instruct squad members on proper use and care of equipment.
- Develop, implement, and supervise procedures that ensure that the locker rooms are properly supervised at all times.
- Make sure that injuries are cared for in a professional manner including the notification of the school nurse and player’s parents, as well as fill out an accident report within 24 hours and submit it to the Health Office.
- Work out details of out-of-town trips with the Athletic Director.
- Keep team statistics as are necessary for school records.
- Rate officials when required.
- Develop criteria for earning awards in his/her sport and notify players of these criteria.
- All head coaches will assist the Athletic Director in:
- scheduling
- transportation
- awards
- CIF and league advisory meetings
- care, maintenance, and preparation of athletic facilities for practice and games
- All head coaches are responsible for
- inventory of equipment
- issuing and receiving equipment
- submitting equipment needs to the Director of Student Services;
- care and maintenance of equipment
- care and prevention of injuries
- development of non-league schedule.
- submitting and managing a program budget
- All head coaches will submit the following to athletic directors at least two weeks prior to the first day of practice
- completed eligibility packets
- team rosters
- coaching contact list
