PROGRAM SPECIALIST - SPECIAL EDUCATION


BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The program specialist, under the direction of the Director of Special Education, will provide consultative, support and advisory services to teachers, parents, administrators, and staff in the implementation, development and operation of programs for special education students from Preschool through grade 12. The program specialist will be knowledgeable in special education curricula, procedures and law, including eligibility criteria and the identification, placement and review process. The program specialist will also be familiar with K-12 curriculum, state frameworks, staff development, and behavior interventions. Knowledge of and/or experience in development and implementation of moderate to severe program is desired.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Communicates effectively with parents, staff, administrators and students; serves as liaison between the district and other agencies providing services to students with severe disabilities including non-public schools, Department of Rehabilitation, County Office of Education and Regional Center; serves as administrative designee at assigned IEP meetings; advises teachers, staff, and administrators on utilization of technology, and program development; assists with transitional and vocational planning for assigned students; provides staff development activities; performs other program specialist duties as appropriate.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

Experience as either a school psychologist, program specialist, administrator of support personnel in the operation of programs for special education students; knowledge of recent developments in special education is desirable (i.e.. collaboration, use of technology, content and performance standards, preschool programs, behavior intervention, autism, CAPA, moderate severe programs.)

Credential:

Valid California teaching credential authorizing services in Secial Education or Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychologist.
