PARAPROFESSIONAL -SEVERE DISABILITIES DEFINITION Under general supervision and direct teacher support and supervision, teaches exceptional students and assists in other school programs as assigned, and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. ~Supports each exceptional student’s program in a manner that will enable him/her to reach his/her fullest physical, emotional, psychological, educational and behavioral potential. ~Helps implement and monitor students' Individual Education Plans. ~Assists teacher with basic core curriculum program for special education students consistent with state and federal education code requirements. ~Assists teacher with student work experience and on-campus/off-campus job-training programs involving special education students diagnosed with autism. ~Works cooperatively with classroom teachers and program staff. ~Maintains a professional attitude at all times. ~Maintains student and staff confidentiality. ~Responsible for the supervision of students throughout the school day. ~Engages students during recess, gross motor activities, and scheduled teacher planning times. ~Participates in staff and team meetings as scheduled. ~Completes and submits substitute forms on time and writes in daily student communication book when designated as substitute teacher. ~Responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe school/classroom environment. ~Follows all health, safety, and emergency procedures. ~Attends required staff trainings. ~Assists with the preparation of all appropriate materials for classroom lessons and activities on a daily basis. ~Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or disciplinary concerns of such students. ~Assists individuals and groups of special education students with educational, occupational, behavioral, and personal concerns. ~Assists the special education student in an assessment of his/her skills and establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with these skills. ~Takes data on student goals and objectives, behaviors, and/or additional activities when needed throughout the school day and on a daily basis. ~Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director, Program Coordinator, and/or Classroom Teacher. QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE Credential: California Substitute Teaching Credential (required within 6 months of employment) Education: Bachelor's degree Experience: Previous work with students in a moderate/severe special education setting. Personal Qualities: Appearance, grooming, and personality which establish a desirable example for students. Ability to meet program standards for physical and mental health. Above-average recommendations from professionals who have observed the characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the applicant. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be severe at times. COMMENTS Weight requirements include moving and lifting students (ages 5-22), moving motor equipment.

Bachelor Degree a MUST Experience working with children with Autism, 5-22 years Fingerprint clearance TB clearance Passing score on CBEST Must obtain a substitute teaching credential within 6 months of date of hire.

Bachelor's Degree CBEST (must have passing scores or pass all sections within 12 months of hire)
