Pay Information
The salary range for this Assistant Professor level position is $4,592 – $6,188 per month. Note that all new faculty hired by the SDCCD start at the Assistant Professor level. Overload assignments are paid at an hourly rate above this amount. Salary placement is based solely upon education and experience as outlined in the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement, and it is non-negotiable. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code §87815, any required adjustment will be made on the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, will be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Assistant Professors may earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.

Applications are now being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor, Interior Design at San Diego Mesa College for an assignment beginning Fall, 2014. Mesa College is located in the Kearny Mesa area of the city of San Diego. This assignment may include day, evening and/or Saturday classes. In addition, this pool may be used to fill identical vacancies that may occur during the academic year.
Major Responsibilities
Primary responsibility is the teaching of Interior Design. Depending upon the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate and the needs of the Department, other responsibilities may include teaching Professional Practice, Materials and Resources, Visual Communication, Non-Residential Space Planning, Kitchen and Bath Design, and Revit for Interior Design. The assignment will be 15 class hours per week, and may include day, evening and Saturday classes. Additional responsibilities of Mesa College tenured/tenure-track faculty include maintaining regular office hours for student advisement, serving on college and District committees, and participating in various departmental and college activities.
Qualifications
Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions
Any Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional experience; OR,
Any Associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience; OR,
The documented equivalent of the above; OR,
Possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential in Decorative Arts and Related Technologies (valid for life).

Desired Qualifications
• Subject matter competency.
• Passing of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination AND the California Council for Interior Design Certification(CCIDC) IDEX examination or equivalent.
• Ability to teach effectively by demonstrating a working knowledge of learning styles and teaching techniques.
• Recent teaching experience in Interior Design at the lower-division college level and the ability to fairly and effectively evaluate student performance.
• Experience in the development and/or review of courses and curriculum.
• Effective oral communication and writing ability.
• Scholarly research, practice, continuing education, and/or creative activity leading to professional growth and the advancement of the profession of Interior Design.
• Computer and current industry-specific CAD literacy.
• Familiarity with the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) educational standards and exams.
• Experience and/or knowledge in working with students of great diversity in socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
Foreign Degree:
Applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). A copy of the evaluation must be submitted with your on-line application.
