BASIC FUNCTION:
Teach high school students technical skills of photography. Instruct students on camera usage; photographic lighting; darkroom processes and techniques of black/white film and transparency processing and printing; digital scanning; and basic digital photo editing.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instruct students in the theory and “hands-on” applications of traditional and digital photography.
- Assist students in the development of a portfolio of high quality, creative work that reflects the principles of design, color theory, and the ability to effectively communicate a personal vision.
- Correctly use and maintain photographic equipment and materials including cameras, darkroom equipment/facilities, chemicals, photo sensitive materials, computers and printers, etc.
- Perform administrative duties including, but not limited to;
- Preparing plans in written form for successfully conducting the learning activities assigned.
- Complete and deliver written records and reports as required.
- Stimulate the exchange of information about the class, program, education, and employment.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
- Accurately report student attendance in a timely manner
- Perform other job duties as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
a) Must have a minimum of 5 years recent professional experience in photographic processes, including digital photography. Equivalent experience in academic setting as an instructor may be substituted for industry experience.
b) Ability to develop curriculum and organize classes for high school students interested in learning skills necessary for employment as apprentice commercial photographers, photo lab technicians, audio-visual specialists, and photo sales personnel.
c) Knowledge of the history of photography and ability to incorporate into curriculum.
d) Incorporate into curriculum and teach California Visual and Performing Arts academic standards using key assignments.
Physical Requirements:
The required physical requirements for the position include: Walking, talking, sitting, standing, bending, stooping, hearing, reaching above the shoulders, the ability to lift at least twenty-five pounds and visual acuity (including color, depth perception and field of vision).

BA degree in the fine arts. Must have a minimum of five years recent experience in the photography industry; or equivalent as an instructor. Must possess, or be eligible and apply for a valid Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential authorizing service in photography. College degree in a related field may substitute for some employment experience.
