Under general supervision, the Vocational Technician I provides clerical, data entry, reporting activity, payroll, and technical functions in support of the Office of Transition Services; will interface with special education teachers, community business partners, TTP and Workability staff in support of all efforts to provide students with individualized job development, job placement and job coaching. This position is funded by State of California grants including: the Transition Partnership Program (TPP) Cooperative Grant (Department of Rehabilitation) and the California Department of Education WorkAbility Grant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES Prepare, maintain and analyze a variety of records, files and reports related to accounting, purchasing, Duties listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this classification: • Tracks and documents all phases of student placement activity, (including: funds requested, placement location, hours worked, hours remaining, funds utilized, funds remaining) within the database for various reporting purposes. • Maintains separate databases for all grant programs and makes updates to the system as they occur. • Serves as primary source of all clerical functions for the grant programs. • Assists in all aspects of student payroll. • Aides Office Instructors and staff in providing student vocational skills training and worksite job-coaching. • Maintains office filing system. • Monitors office supply usage, advises office manager of supply needs, and assists in the supply ordering process. • Navigates various software programs (including Power School and Special Education Information System) to access required student information. • Prepares funding requests from The California Department of Rehabilitation for student wages. • Serve as initial point of telephone contact for The Office of Transition Services. • Provides information and routing calls to appropriate staff members. • Processes all office mail, including District/Inter-Office and United States Postal Service. • Assist students in completing required grant applications. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: Special education and specific population’s eligible for services; Basic accounting practices; State funded programs to include their purposes, target populations, funding cycles, and funding conditions; Database programs including: WorkAbility, PowerSchool and Special Education Information System (SEIS); Clerical office methods and standard office machines including a computer; Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation and vocabulary; Oral and written communication skills; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Ability to: Report to work as scheduled and on time; Conduct all common office practices; Operate computer software programs, including: Microsoft Office and Excel; Access student information with software programs, including: PowerSchool and SEIS; To learn and apply new software programs as they become available; Accurately input data into database software programs; Operate general office equipment, including, but not limited to: fax machine, photocopier, and numeric keypad; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
