ORINDA UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB TITLE: LIBRARY TEACHER Job Purpose Statement: The librarian plans, develops, and manages a school library program which supports and helps to accomplish the goals and objectives of the total educational program of the school, the district and the community. Essential Job Functions: Library Management: · Consults with the principal, staff and director of curriculum and instruction to determine the goals and objectives of the school's library program and to establish principles of operation. · Maintains a library environment that is attractive, inviting and conducive to learning. · Establishes and maintains standards of behavior for students that will insure a positive learning climate in the library. · Supervises the library clerk and trains student assistants and parent volunteers in library routines. · Keeps abreast of new books, non-print and technology-based materials and current developments in curriculum and educational technology through wide professional reading and attendance at professional conferences. · Attends faculty meetings, serves on school and district committees and participates in monthly program planning and idea sharing meetings with librarians from the district and the public library. Services to Teachers: · Collaborates with staff in developing small group and large group curriculum activities which utilize library print, non-print and technology-based sources of information. · Consults with teachers on materials to be purchased with library funds and keeps teachers informed on print, non-print and technology-based materials added to the library collection. · Provides reference services for staff. Services to Students: · Introduces literature through book talks, storytelling, reading aloud and author/illustrator presentations and provides reading guidance to individual students. · Provides guidance in use of library technology. · Provides encouragement and assistance to children engaged in independent study projects. · Consults with parents on reading needs of their children. Job Requirements – Qualifications: Ø Education and Experience: Required experience and training include experience in technology and library skills. Ø Knowledge of technology and library, desire to serve as a team player, ability to facilitate groups and excellent leadership skills. Ø Ability to communicate effectively and have excellent writing and speaking skills, organizational and planning abilities, strong ability to work effectively and be knowledgeable in the area of instruction. Ø Licenses, Certification, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, TB Clearance and a valid California Teaching Credential. Pending Board Approval
