Under general supervision, to perform a variety of investigative duties to provide police services in assigned areas of the district as a peace officer of the State of California authorized by Section 830.32 of the California Penal Code, and as a school district officer authorized by Education Code Sections 39670 et seq. Essential Functions:Provides for public safety by maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing laws, and promoting good community relations; Records facts and prepares reports to document incidents and activities; Monitors, notes, reports, and investigates suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity within District boundaries; Testifies in court to present evidence or serve as a witness; Records crime or accident scenes by photographing or drawings and conducts interviews related to the incident; Observes, collects, preserves, and records physical and oral evidence of crimes, including fingerprints; Apprehends and interrogates those suspected of committing or attempting to commit crimes affecting District facilities, personnel, or students; Monitors grounds and buidings for signs of unauthorized persons, vandalism, fire, or other potential hazards or crimes that might involve injury to persons or damage to property; Prepares and reviews incident reports relating to violations in crimes and conducts follow-up investigations; Counsels juvenile offenders and advises parents on potential courses of action; Enforces parking regulations within the boundaries of the District; Contacts and cooperates with local law-enforcement agencies in the prevention, control, and investigation of activities and/or actions by persons directed against District facilities, personnel, or students; Identifies, locates, and interviews witnesses; Maintains standards of personal conduct and inaccordance with current policy approved by the Inglewood Unifice School District; Maintains order of large crowds and enforces safety regulations when assigned to special events sponsored by the District; Conducts security checks at schools and central offices to ensure intrusion system is operating properly; Patrols, stakes out, and responds to intrusion alarm reports at District schools, offices, and other facilities; Enforces violations of California vehicle codes and penal codes, and all other violations fo City, County, State, and Federal law statutes, as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Methods, techniques, procedures, and equipment used in law enforcement, security, safety, and patrol operations;Applicable laws, rules, and regulations related t arrest, search, and seizure;Computer applications used by law enforcement;Report writing procedures;Disaster preparedness;Police equipment including firearms and communication;Police strategy and security measures and devices;Provisions of the Education Code related to law enforcement activities;General police nomenclature and dress code, such as handcuffs, pepper spray, flashlight, etc.

Ability to: Make quick and appropriate decisions in emergency situations;Collect and analyze information;Use relevant information and individual judgement to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, or standards;Keep complete and accurate details and records of occurrences and prepare clear and concise reports;Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;Deal effectively with juveniles and maintain good relations with the public;Operate a two-way radio and enunciate clearly when broadcasting.Learn, adjust, and adapt to changing laws, rules, regulations, or situations;Receive instructions and carry them out properly;Safely drive and operate police vehicles and all functions within.Observe and discern if there is an existing or potential problem.

Minimum Qualifications: Education:High school diploma or its equivalent.  Some college coursework or applicable experience is desired. Other:A valid basic P.O.S.T. certificate is requiredAvalid Class C driver's license is required. Must qualify periodically for firearms proficiency.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside, have direct contact with other District staff, students and administration.  Possible exposure to verbal abuse and harassment, potential physical hazards involed when intervening in illegal and/or violent behavior; possible verbal and/or physical confrontations.

Physical Abilities:Good visual field and depth, color, and hue perception.Agility and strength to make apprehensions and protect self from attack.Must be able to climp stairs, ramps and walk or stand for extended periods of time. Revised 10-24-12nmp
