JOB TITLE: Instructional Aide

Purpose Statement/s: The job of “Instructional Aide” is done for the purpose/s of assisting (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of students, and relieving teachers of routine clerical tasks.

Essential Job Functions:

* Assists teachers for the purpose of implementing lesson plans.

* Maintains classroom equipment, students’ files, records, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items as may be required.

* Monitors individual students, classroom and/or playground activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

* Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying, etc. for the purpose of supporting the teacher in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials.

Other Job Functions:

* Administers tests for the purpose of assisting the teacher in evaluating students' progress.

* Confers with teachers, parents and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing of students' objectives.

* Participates in various activities (e.g. meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information.

* Administers basic first aid for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill or injured children.

Job Requirements - Qualifications:

* Experience Required:

Prior job related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children.

* Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, students, parents, school administrators and the community. Perform basic clerical functions, perform basic arithmetic calculations, operate standard office equipment, use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Knowledge of principles of child development, instructional processes.

Ability to sit for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity.

* Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

Passing score on the High School Basic Skills Proficiency Test, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, Health Physical Examination, Tuberculosis Testing/Clearance.

          Part-time Instructional Aide positions are 3.75 hours per day, 5 days per week, 180 days per year. Monthly salary will be adjusted based upon actual days worked. To qualify for an Instructional Aide position, you must meet the State of California NCLB (No Child Left Behind) requirement. When applying for this position, you must include proof of ONE (1) of the following with your application: 1. Passed CBEST 2. AA (Associates) or higher College Degree 3. 48 College Semester Units or higher (1.5 Quarter Units = 1 Semester Unit) 4. Proof of a passed NCLB Test with an employing School District* *Our District is offering limited seating NCLB testing by appointment during the posting period only.
