Job Title: Custodian Work Year: 260 Days
Under the direction and supervision of the Director, Buildings and Grounds and the school site administrator, perform routine cleaning and custodial functions in assigned buildings or areas.
Responsible to and evaluated by: Principal and consultation with Director, Buildings and Grounds.
Perform general and special clean-up duties; responsible for cleanliness of assigned area. Receive supervision within a broad framework of standard policies and procedures.
Example of Duties
Perform routine janitorial, cleaning and custodial functions for assigned buildings, classrooms, facilities and other areas.
Sweep, scrub, mop, wax and otherwise clean and preserve floors; vacuum, spot clean and shampoo rugs and carpets in classrooms and offices; order and pick-up supplies.
Ensure that all sidewalks and corridors are swept, restrooms are mopped, scrubbed and disinfected; drinking fountains are cleaned.
Clean classrooms, restrooms, offices and related areas; pick up papers and debris; sweep appropriate areas; use proper procedures for cleaning using hazardous fluids.
Wash walls and windows, clean chalkboards and marker boards; move and arrange furniture and equipment in classrooms.
Vacuum rugs and carpets; replace light bulbs and tubes; make minor repairs as needed; repair equipment used on the job as needed.
Maintain multi-purpose rooms, restrooms, labs and resource centers; assist in keeping area clean and safe.
Lock and unlock doors and gates, buildings and windows; open and close facilities for approved community use; raise and lowers flags.
Request cleaning and custodial supplies and equipment, as needed.
Attend training sessions to broaden and maintain skills; assist in training of new custodians.
Set up office furniture and standard and specialized equipment for campus functions, classes, offices, and special activities; adjust furniture, shades and blinds.
Perform other related duties.

Training and Experience: Any combination of experience equivalent to the completion of high school or equivalent with some experience as a custodian preferred.
Knowledge: Knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, materials, tools and equipment; safe use and operation of equipment and chemicals used in janitorial and custodial work; safe working methods and procedures; care and maintenance of custodial and building equipment and tools.
Ability: Ability to safely, efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials; read at a level sufficient to successfully perform required duties; understand and follow oral and written directions; organize and prioritize work load to accomplish diverse tasks; meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Physical Effort/Work Environment: Heavy physical effort which may include extensive standing or walking; frequent lifting of heavy parcels, machines or equipment weighing 50 lbs. or more; frequent activities requiring full body exertion. May be called upon to operate heavy machinery and/or equipment. Some exposure to outdoor work in weather extremes.
Licenses and Certificates: A California Driver's License and evidence of appropriate automobile insurance, based on DMV requirements, may be requested.
