BASIC FUNCTION: Perform a variety of routine, highly difficult clerical duties related to attendance accounting and record-keeping; good communications skills in contacts with parents, guardians, and others to report and verify excused and unexcused absences; operate a computer terminal to enter and update attendance data. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (Incumbents may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below. This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities associated with this classification, but is intended to accurately reflect the principal job elements). E = Essential Functions Perform a variety of routine, highly difficult clerical duties related to attendance accounting and record-keeping. E Utilize good communications skills in contacts with parents, guardians, and others to report and verify excused and unexcused absences; make and receive phone calls and notes regarding student absences; record notes and information obtained during telephone or personal contacts. E Operate a computer terminal and other specialized equipment to review, enter, and update attendance and enrollment data and other information related to students; operate a variety of other office equipment required in performing duties. E Provide accurate reporting of daily attendance of students; distribute and collect daily attendance information; process and verify student absence information; issue excuses as appropriate to students for absences from class; clear absences and tardiness according to established policies. E Follow and explain District policies and State regulations regarding school attendance and enrollment as appropriate. E Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year of relevant experience. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Employment eligibility that may include fingerprints, Tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic office procedures, computers and other office equipment Basic record-keeping techniques Telephone techniques and etiquette Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy Good communication skills and techniques District policies and State regulations regarding school attendance and enrollment ABILITY TO: Perform a variety of routine, highly difficult clerical duties involving filing and maintaining records or reports from clearly defined sources Communicate clearly using tact and courtesy Understand and follow oral and written directions Operate a computer and other office equipment Meet schedules and time lines Maintain attendance and other records Work cooperatively with others Complete work accurately and as directed with many interruptions Interpret District policies and State regulations regarding school attendance and enrollment WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Office environment; constant interruptions PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to file a variety of documents; reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally, or bending at the waist to retrieve or store records or files; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office equipment; lifting light objects.
