Ranking on the eligibility list will be based on a passing score on the written exam and an oral qualifications appraisal. Applicants must also provide proof that that they can type at least 40 words per minute. The written exam and the oral appraisal each count as 50% of the total score. The written test will include alphabetizing, spelling, proofreading, vocabulary and other basic information pertinent to the position.
Please attach proof of high school graduation or equivalent to your application.

BANNING UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT BILINGUAL CLERK Position: Bilingual Clerk Reports to: Director of Bilingual Projects Approved: Personnel Commission – July 1997 DEFINITION: Under general supervision performs clerical and typing work of greater than average difficulty or responsibility, and does other work as required. TYPICAL DUTIES: · Performs any combination of the following: · Types and prepares reports, form letters, memoranda, statistical summaries, and other material. · Types from either a smooth or a rough draft copy. · Maintains and is responsible for the records, files, and other information of an office. · Records a variety of student and financial data on appropriate records. · Checks forms and records for completeness and accuracy, and excerpts data from records as needed. · Answers telephone requests for information and may make personal or telephone contacts to obtain and impart information. · Searches files for required information, compile data, and prepare reports. · May be required to interpret and apply District Policies pertaining to particular programs and/or projects. · Orders, receives, and distributes office supplies. · Other duties as assigned. ABILITIES: · Ability to use IBM, IBM compatibles, and position related software with a high degree of expertise and skill. · To perform a variety of basic clerical work with accuracy and speed. · Make arithmetical calculations accurately. · Receive and give information over the telephone or in person in a courteous manner. · Work efficiently with frequent interruptions. · Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. · Maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. · Learn and follow office routines. QUALIFICATIONS: · Speak, read and write fluently in English and Spanish · Knowledge/awareness of ethical issues related to translating · Type at a speed of 40 works per minute from a clear, legible copy · One year of general clerical experience EDUCATION: · High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
