Job Description / Essential Elements:
Under general supervision to perform as a regular and on going assignment operates medium and heavy duty equipment used in grounds work and performs other related duties as required. Assumes responsibility for equipment operation.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Operates fork lift, cherry picker, sweeper, chipper, tractors and riding lawn mowers, skip loader, large skip loader, tractor with disk, turn vacuum, tractor with floats-grading, seeder with pickup truck, tractor with scraper, chain saw, weed sprayer-100 gallon, water truck-tank, blowers, edger, rotary push mower, renovator, rototiller dump trucks. Repairs blacktop; controls pests and plant diseases; prepares athletic fields. Delivers materials and supplies. Services and makes minor repairs to equipment. Assists in moving and arranging bleachers, furniture and equipment for special events. Performs minor and intermediate sprinkler repairs. Cultivates, waters, trims lawns, shrubs, hedges, and trees. Sprays shrubs, trees and lawns. Performs varied duties in the planting, transplanting, fertilizing, and prunes shrubs, hedges and trees. Transplanting, fertilizing, operates weed eater, blower, tractor with float, lock mower, edger, rotary push mower, chain saws, operates turf vacuum.

Ability to maintain work schedules in performing tasks; maintain records as required; perform heavy physical labor, working without immediate supervision; operate a variety of equipment; understand and carry out oral and written instructional including simple blueprints and plans. Maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Maintain a pleasant appearance and demeanor. Good physical condition as determined by pre and post employment inquires and health reports.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Good knowledge of the basic methods, tools and equipment used in the groundskeeping trade; operation and servicing of all types of powered gardening equipment; safety practices in equipment operation. Ability to operate all light, medium and heavy duty motorized grounds equipment; follow oral and written directions and schedules. Work from sketches and blueprints and keeps work records.
Three years of experience in grounds maintenance or gardening work. Must have a good work history and attendance.
High School diploma or equivalent, one year of experience in gardening or grounds maintenance work; or any combination of training and experience that could provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
High degree of mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new skills, routines and equipment. Possess physical strength and stamina to do strenuous work.
Good physical condition as determined by pre and post-employment inquires and health report; Must pass District physical which includes drug screening.
