Under general supervision, to perform custodial services required to maintain assigned buildings or areas in a clean, orderly and secure manner; perform other related work as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:    One year of experience involved with the care and cleaning of buildings and facilities, preferably in a school setting; some experience in maintenance work preferred.

Education: Graduation from high school, or equivalent.

Knowledge and Abilities: Basic cleaning methods, procedures and techniques; cleaning materials, supplies and equipment; safe working methods and procedures; mechanical aptitude; physically capable of performing moderately heavy manual activities; efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies and equipment;  understand and carry out oral and written directions; assist faculty members; work without supervision; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.

Required Licenses and Certificates: A valid California Driver's License; insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier; DMV Driving Record Print-out; passage of District Custodial Exam.

 

JOB DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:  

Scrub, mop, vacuum, shampoo, wax, dust, sweep, wash, polish, clean, disinfect (as needed), i.e. floor, walls, furniture, writing boards, chalk trays, windows, mirrors, blinds, lamps, lockers, kitchens, walkways, threshold, fountains, etc., and strip waxed floors; replace light bulbs and tubes; unlock buildings, rooms, etc., and secure areas by turning out lights, locking doors, windows, gates and activate security alarm systems; make minor adjustments to furniture; general clean-up of grounds; set up and break down, arrange, move tables, desks, general furniture; clean and disinfect restroom and replenish restroom supplies; raise and lower flag; remove snow as required; care of equipment and material; observe fire prevention methods and reset alarms, as required; report needed repairs; makes minor, non-technical repairs; request/order supplies as needed; maintain orderly custodian closets; properly handle and store equipment; maintain building security control; attend in-service training program as directed; clean and shampoo carpets as needed; empty trash; assist in the thorough cleaning and restoration of a school plant during school vacation; other related duties as required.  This position currently requires travel to and servicing three separate District sites, but is subject to change depending on District needs.     

 

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as climbing and moving heavy objects over 55 pounds.  Physical dexterity in limbs and digits necessary to operate hand and power driven equipment and tools commonly used in the custodial trade, and perform strenuous manual labor; ability to bend, stoop, grasp and reach.  Moderate risk or discomforts such as working around moving parts, machines or chemicals.

May be required to work alone during evening hour assignments.  Ability to mix and work with detergents and other cleaning chemicals without allergic reactions.
