SAN JOSE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT I. Campus Assistant II. Definition Under the supervision of a site administrator to assist in the supervision of activities on the district property and to do related work as required. III. Examples of Duties Assist administrative staff with supervision of students or non-district staff on the site, rest rooms, and areas immediately adjacent to the site, and the parking lots; is visible at all times; may refer students according to established school process to appropriate administrative staff as necessary; makes quick, accurate, and objective assessments of site situations and uses initiative and judgment in dealing with such situations; may issue referrals for campus rule infractions; discusses infractions with students and informally counsels when possible; keeps undesirable non-student visitors off campus and maintains a log of such contacts; works individually with problem students as time permits; may be requested to meet with community groups or vendors on off-site problems and may participate in parent/student conferences; assists in the registration of motor vehicles; maintains outside lockers; assists in enforcing site rules regarding smoking; supervise site for drug related activities; and serves as student advocate in some situations. IV. Distinguishing Characteristics V. Employment Standards A. Knowledge of: Site rules and regulations. B. Ability to: Relate to adults and young people and the community in general in a positive manner Keep records of referral and log of non-district staff entering and leaving site. Keep calm and objective during times of stress; Communicate effectively, both orally and in written form; Objectively assess problem situations; Understand and carry out oral and written directions. C. Education/Training/Experience: Completion of 12th grade. Previous experience in the care and supervision of young people. VI.
