Qualifications

• BA or BS required, in related field preferred; CA Teaching Credential or Master's preferred

• Teaching experience in related subject areas and with middle school age level

• Ability to relate to twelve to fourteen year-olds and demonstrate effective classroom management strategies

• Passion for subject matter and for ensuring student success

Job Description

• Preparing/implementing standards-based weekly lesson plans for four subjects:   English/Language Arts for Grades 5 and 6; U.S. History and Ancient History (following CCSS and CA standards)

• Conducting regular assessments of student performance and maintaining recordkeeping through school's technology-based grading system

• Engaging students using a variety of teaching techniques and materials including literary circles, writing workshops, vocabulary-building, cooperative grouping, graphic organizers, note-taking, visual aids, projects, technology, etc.

• Conducting regular assessments of student performance using clearly defined rubrics

• Working with students of various levels to address their specific learning needs

• Encouraging students to think critically and independently and to express original ideas

• Creating a stimulating, exciting learning environment that demonstrates your own passion and interest in the subject area

• Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment

• Maintaining regular communication with parents

• Participating in the school's professional learning community to stimulate faculty growth and coherence in the program

• Performing related duties as assigned.
