The Board of Education of the Temple City Unified School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Principal for the Dr. Doug Sears Learning Center, which includes but is not limited to, the District's continuation high school and the independent study and adult education program.  The ideal candidate will be one who is an outstanding educational leader with strong curriculum and instruction knowledge and experience, capable of promoting high expectations for all students and staff.

Examples of Duties

  • Serves as the instructional leader and provides leadership in curriculum, evaluation and professional development
  • Has a strong commitment to academic excellence, knowledgeable in instructional strategies including assessment data analysis and use, and proven successful academic programs as well as Common Core Standards.
  • High visibility and accessibility to students, staff and the community
  • Has the ability to work closely with staff, gain their respect and utilize their expertise in planning, implementing and maintaining the instructional programs which meet the needs of the students
  • Has a vision of educational excellence for all students and the ability to translate that vision into action in tune with the community
  • Leads staff in advancing District goals and achievement of objectives
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of site certificated and classified personnel
  • has a management style which is collaborative in nature and the ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form as well as effective listening skills with staff, students and the community
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces student attendance and discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students including SST's, SARB, and student discipline proceedings
  • Attends a variety of workshops and meetings to develop and enhance administrative skills to remain current in educational research, techniques and legislation
  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and attends school sponsored activities and functions
  • Manages the school budget, AERIES and ABI Parent Portal
  • Works with the principal at La Rosa Elementary School to oversee a number of IEP's
  • Works collaboratively with the principal at Temple City High School in student transfers
  • Establishes and maintains a safe and respectful learning environment

Requirements

  • Appropriate California credential authorizing Administrative service
  • Successful teaching experience
  • Knowledge of working with a multi-cultural school and community population
  • Knowledge of available grants and other alternative funding resources
  • Creative and critical thinker and listener
  • Organizational and management skills
  • Brings leadership, vision and enthusiasm to the position
  • Previous administrative experience desirable
  • Committed to shared decision-making
