CHINO VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL INTERVENTION COUNSELOR DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: -Counselor, through intervention counseling and directly related activities, seeks to facilitate individual students toward learning and academic success, thus helping students have a successful school experience and provide a path of success for completion of junior high school and transition to high school. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: -Develop a systematic approach for diagnosis, prescription, and follow-through treatment for students demonstrating academic deficits. -Review each student’s academic and deportment records, and meet with each student, and if practicable, the parents or guardian of the pupil, to explain the academic and deportment records of the pupil, his or her educational options, and the coursework and academic progress needed for satisfactory completion of junior high. -Develop a list of coursework and experience to assist each pupil in grade 7 who is deemed to be far below the basic level in English language arts or mathematics to successfully transition to high school, the outcome of which is to help students meet all of the graduation requirements, including passing the high school exit exam. -Schedule an individual conference with each pupil in grade 7 who is deemed to be far below the basic level in English language arts or mathematics and, if practicable, his or her parent or guardian. -Provide student/parent a copy of coursework and “experience” necessary to assist the student. -Add to student’s cumulative file a copy of coursework and “experience” necessary to assist the student. -Mobilize the resources of the school, District, and community to assist students to have a successful academic experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (TIME PERMITTING) -Use skills to help students become aware of themselves and their environment and to find the optimum relationship between the two. -Provide individual and group counseling. -Confer with parents. -Develop strategies with all appropriate personnel to assist students evidencing apparently insoluble difficulties. -Assist in the identification of students for special programs. -Plan and execute necessary research. -Conduct in-service training for teachers. -Evaluate the intervention counseling program. -Refer students and/or parents to out-of-school agencies when appropriate. CREDENTIAL: -Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential. EDUCATION: -Bachelor’s Degree. EXPERIENCE: -Teaching experience, work experience outside of education is desirable.
