Folsom Cordova Unified School District Position Classification ESEA CHAPTER I RESOURCE TEACHER Definition: Under the direction of the school site principal and the Director of Special Programs, the ESEA Chapter I Resource Teacher will provide assistance to all adults who work with ESEA identified students and help the students access the District core curriculum. This position is to be applied for every three years, and appointments will be made from a pool of successful candidates. All teachers will be furloughed from regular classroom teaching positions. Qualifications: Credential Valid California Teaching Credential Experience Three (3) years of public school teaching experience. It is desirable that the experience be with students in lower socioeconomic environments, and that the teacher possesses skills in teaching lower quartile achieving students. Education An advanced degree is desirable. Typical Duties and Responsibilities:  Analyze and interpret test data and provide suggested strategies to the classroom teacher and/or classroom aide in order to help each Chapter I student access the core curriculum.  Provide learning experiences in the regular classroom in collaboration with the classroom teacher. Pull out services will be used only when it does not interfere with the student’s core curriculum and is a “trade up” in services.  Prepare student files containing pertinent diagnosis and prescription information, placement information and anecdotal records regarding extra help provided to the student and his/her family. This information is to be prepared for each identified Chapter I student.  Schedule regular conferences with every classroom teacher by the end of November and by the end of April, and as needed to discuss the progress of each Chapter I student in that classroom. Conferences will determine the next step for students who are not progressing satisfactorily.  Meet with school site principals on a regularly scheduled bi-annual basis to review all Chapter I students having difficulty accessing the core curriculum.  Provide training, instruction, and information to the parents/guardians of Chapter I students in the following areas: • Parental ability to support their children with their schoolwork. • Home activities, strategies, and material to assist the children’s learning in the home. • Parenting skills that assist parents in understanding the development needs of their children. • Parent ability to develop consistent and effective communication between the school and the parent.  ESEA Resource Teachers are required to submit a master schedule and a monthly calendar for site principal approval. This schedule will include Resource Teachers’ activities which provide services for target students, parent in-service, parent contacts, and other assigned duties. ESEA CHAPTER I RESOURCE TEACHER (continued)  Coordinate the Chapter I program at the school site. Coordination will include providing leadership for: the School Advisory Committee, the development of the Chapter I school site plan and evaluation of the Chapter I program.  Provide leadership and training for Chapter I instructional aides. Observations shall be made on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure that aides are providing appropriate direct assistance to target students.  The principal and Resource Teacher may arrange for the Resource Teacher to substitute in order to release the classroom teacher to improve his/her skills in working with educationally disadvantaged students. These activities will not supplant the regular substitute system.
