Maybeck High School, a small, independent, collectively-run, college-preparatory high school in Berkeley, seeks a part-time (30%-50% FTE) English teacher for the 2013-2014 academic year and possibly beyond. This position is to teach one to two sections of our Intermediate Composition (10th grade English) in the fall and spring, and one section of an Advanced English elective (11th and 12th grade English) in the fall. Each class meets on average 50 minutes daily from late August through May. We are looking for applicants who have demonstrated excellence in teaching English to bright, creative, engaged students.
Requirements: A genuine excitement about teaching, a strong commitment to working closely with students, a bachelor’s degree, relevant teaching experience, and a desire to participate in a democratically run school. Advanced degrees are preferred, as is the ability to teach across a variety of subject areas. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply. A teaching credential is not required for this position.
Our full-time equivalent salary range for this position is $42,000 to $55,000 depending on experience teaching at high school or possibly college level. This position at 30% has a salary range of $12,600-$16,500 and at 50% has a salary range of $21,000 to $27,500; benefits include partial health coverage (commensurate with percentage of employment), limited life insurance, TSA, and a cafeteria plan.
