Our Organization - Serving East San Jose through Education The Foundation for Hispanic Education (TFHE) was established in 1981 as a product of the late Dr. B. Roberto Cruz’s vision of providing quality education and support for all underserved learners, with a focus on Latino students. With 106 committed staff members, TFHE now serves over 1,050 students from the community neighborhoods of Mayfair, Mt. Pleasant, Sylvandale, Santee, and Alum Rock in East San Jose. TFHE operates three charter high schools.

LATINO COLLEGE PREPARATORY ACADEMY

TEACHER________________________________________________________

 

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Develops and presents lessons to students; evaluates students’ progress; maintains proper classroom control and learning environment; assists in curriculum development; supports and supervises co-curricular activities.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develops and presents lessons that demonstrate planning, preparation and that are consistent with the LCPA course of study.
  2. Develops and presents lessons whose performance objectives are understood by the students and are supportive of school goals.
  3. Evaluates student progress based primarily on achievement of performance objectives or standards.
  4. Uses a variety of instructional techniques and materials which are appropriate to the course and to the students.
  5. Maintains proper control and preserves a suitable learning environment.
  6. Demonstrates and promotes punctuality.
  7. Maintains current records of student attendance and progress that can be easily understood and readily interpreted by others
  8. Participates with fellow staff members in the development and implementation of curriculum and instruction and other departmental activities.
  9. Keeps up to date in subject area and continually works for the improvement of instructional techniques.
  10. Makes periodic evaluation of the subject(s) taught and analyzes results to improve learning.
  11. Adheres to approved district course of study, policies and procedures.
  12. Attends and participates in departmental school and grade-level meetings.
  13. Supervises the proper use of equipment and facilities with the students’ safety in mind.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  1. Treats students with courtesy and respect.
  2. Demonstrates an awareness of student’s social, psychological, emotional academic needs.
  3. Acknowledges professional responsibility to support and supervise co-curricular activities.
  4. Shares ideas, techniques and materials as appropriate with other staff members.
  5. Demonstrates willingness to offer and receive suggestions.
  6. Cooperates in the use and care of all equipment and materials.
  7. Demonstrates as awareness of the total LCPA educational programs.
  8. Attends conferences and reads professional literature.
  9. Maintains current knowledge of available instructional materials.
  10. Keeps informed of social, political and economic developments in the University and local San Jose community.
  11. Demonstrates an awareness of the socio-economic and ethnic makeup of the San Jose community.
  12. Has knowledge of the functions of the various community agencies including referral services.
  13. Promotes community responsibility among students.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED OR RECEIVED

  1. Under general supervision of Director.
  2. Supervisory responsibility over classified personnel assigned to his or her classes.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Appropriate secondary teaching credential in subject area.
  2. Minimum college degree to satisfy credential requirements.
  3. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  4. 3 years experience in education.

 

EVALUATION

  1. Semi-annually by Director or designate for first year teachers.
  2. Annually by Director or designate for probationary teachers.
  3. Bi-annually by Director or designate for teachers with permanent status.
