POSITION: TEACHER DIVISION: NOVA Academy REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL POSITIONS UNDER DIRECT SUPERVISION: EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM ASSISTANT/ TEACHER AIDE CLASSIFICATION: NON-EXEMPT SUMMARY OF WORK PERFORMED: Responsible for subject appropriate classroom instruction and management of the students. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop and implement course curriculum for students in classroom. 2. Responsible for providing appropriate specialized academic, vocational and instructional activities, utilizing practical applications directed at enabling students to become active participants of their learning experience. 3. Selects appropriate instructional materials and methods, making best use of class time. 4. Maintain weekly lesson plans. 5. Maintain up-to-date student progress records and attendance records. 6. Assist students in developing portfolios of exceptional completed work. 7. Assist students in creating a written record of graduation standards (credit checks). 8. Prepare report cards and progress reports quarterly as directed by administrative team. Consult regularly with administration regarding any student in danger of receiving a failing grade. 9. Contact parents / legal guardian regarding progress or insufficient progress of student. 10. Responsible for guiding student behavior according to school policies. 11. Maintain and improve upon professional competence. 12. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides, and evaluate performance on a regular basis. 13. Evaluate the needs of exceptional students in order to design and implement an academic and vocational program based upon those needs. 14. Participate in staff meetings and in-service meetings as required. 15. Complete child abuse reports and incident reports, as needed. 16. Ensure that broken or damaged equipment is reported immediately to the Site Director. 17. Attend conferences and workshops as required. Page 2 Job Description: Teacher REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. BA/BS Degree in Education or related field. 2. Valid teaching credential. 3. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record 4. Department of Justice and FBI criminal record clearances. 5. First Aid/CPR certification. 6. Ability to speak and write in English. 7. Proficiency in subject specific academic area(s) and the ability to tutor students. 8. Adequate vision and hearing to supervise clients properly. Must have a philosophy of support for abused children in line with the values, mission and treatment philosophy of Olive Crest. Must have a management philosophy that respects the value of people and seeks to maximize their potential in the work place. WORKING CONDITIONS: NOVA Academy seeks to provide a rigorous participatory educational program to students through the implementation of an Early College High School model. Students enrolled in this program may require appropriate degrees of EL instruction in concert with active learning strategies conducive to college level courses.
