The Institution:
Sacramento City College is an urban college in a park-like setting located in the heart of the Sacramento metropolitan area. The College is a learning center for approximately 23,000 day and evening students. Founded in 1916, Sacramento City College is a place of tradition and history, with a vitality and diversity that is contemporary. The College consists of a main campus and outreach centers in Davis and West Sacramento. Classes are offered seven days a week, both day and evening. The faculty and staff of Sacramento City College value a humanistic approach to learning, teaching, and working together in a diverse community. The college is a part of the Los Rios Community College District and uses an interest based approach to dispute resolution.
Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Student Services, the Dean of Counseling and Student Success is responsible for the administration and supervision of those areas within Counseling Services, including Counseling Services of the Davis and West Sacramento Centers. Duties include assisting staff in facilitating and supporting students' educational success through the provision of student-centered educational, career and personal counseling; hiring and assignment of counselors and support staff; supervision, development and evaluation of all staff; development and management of budgets; coordination of on-going course articulation with universities; facilitating coordination of college orientation and registration activities with the Dean of Financial Aid and Student Services in implementing the college's matriculation plan; performing other duties as may be assigned.
The Dean of Counseling and Student Success serves as first line administrator in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of: career planning, job services, counseling, health services, international students, transfer, athletics counseling, crisis counseling, human career development classes and cooperative work experience and internships. The Dean also conducts professional meetings with the Counseling Department Chair, faculty and classified personnel. The Dean co-coordinates the student discipline process and crisis intervention counseling.
Responsibilities:
Typical Duties:
. Manages and coordinates counseling services for the main campus and centers.
. Works cooperatively with the Dean of Financial Aid and Student Services and other academic Deans in outreach and recruitment activities.
. Develops and implements a system for tracking students through services received.
. In concert with Department Chairs of Counseling and Human Career Development, evaluates and assists in developing Human Career Development classes.
. Responsible for coordination and implementation of advisement, and follow-up counseling with students having academic problems, lacking educational objectives, or on academic or progress probation.
. Manages the development of student learning outcomes, program review and accomplishments.
. Coordinates the development of a college-wide advising program.
. Works cooperatively with other Student Services programs and with instructional divisions of the college, community and public agencies.
. Supervises related programs: Transfer Center, Health Services, Cooperative Work Experience and Internships, Career Center, Puente and International Student Program, Career to College, Veterans Resource Center, SARS Alert and the Early Alert Program.
. Recommends selection of candidates for certificated and classified positions in the areas of responsibility; supervises and evaluates faculty and classified staff.
. Oversees development, maintenance and administration of the budget for counseling.
. Schedules fulltime and adjunct counselors.
. Coordinates with the Athletic Department for athletic advising.
. Works with Instructional Services in the coordination of Advanced Education with the local K-12 districts.
. Assists in development of First Year Experience for students.
. Supports the implementation of technology in Student Services.
. Prepares and submits required reports for the area.
. Assists the college in creating a campus environment that values and reflects multi-cultural diversity.
. Performs other duties as assigned and may be required to work evenings and/or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Have a master's degree* from an accredited institution completed by July 1, 2013.
2. Have the equivalent of one full year of recent teaching experience in post-secondary education or in high school; or have two years of recent professional experience in education, business, or government.
3. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Conditions:
All Positions: Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful clearance from a criminal background check, freedom from tuberculosis, and proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States prior to the first day of work. The District may select additional qualified candidates should unexpected vacancies or needs occur during this recruitment/selection process. When education is a requirement for the position, official academic transcripts from the accredited college/university must be submitted within 60 days of hire.
Administrative/Executive/Faculty Positions: Contingent on funding and eligibility, successful candidates selected for an interview may be eligible to apply for partial reimbursement of travel expenses.
Administrative/Executive Positions: Administrative positions may be subject to the District's Conflict of Interest Code, and a statement of economic interest is required within thirty (30) days following appointment to the position. Management/Executive positions are exempt from overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
